Is it correct to call female masturbation wanking? Or is there a separate British term for it? I know in North America, I’ve heard “jilling off” (as opposed to “jacking off”, I guess) ---

“Wanking” became the main slang term for masturbation during the 20th century, and has been almost exclusively male. As DarrenS said, the word used for female masturbation during that time has most commonly been “Frigging,” which had previously (19th–early 20th Century) been the popular word for both sexes. I’ve seen and heard enough instances in the last ten years to suggest that “wanking” may be becoming more of a unisex term, but it’s still largely male. ---
