**Avarie** , how long has it taken you to get back to a regular cycle? I’m three months out of being off the Pill, and I’ve yet to have a normal cycle (hell, I haven’t even had a period yet).

But, as I discovered the other day, I may very well have ovulated right at the time that we had some married fun  , which means we may ALREADY BE A WINNER! We’ll see. I’ll laugh my ass off if I am, especially while I’m watching my husband hyperventilate. My temps seem to be staying high, although today’s dipped by about .10, so we’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

E.

Yes. DH has some health problems that preclude him from a vasectomy for now, and I can’t find a doctor in this gods-forsaken red state that will sterilize a woman of childbearing age with no kids and no health problems requiring a full-on hysterectomy.

Ireland being Ireland…

Women:
3 or more kids and you can get a TL at any age.
1 or 2 and they want you at least 25.
No kids, over 30s only for TL, but they’ll fit a Mirena at any age.

Men:
Whenever they want!

The move is to try and get the women who would have gone for a TL to get Mirena, because it’s more effective, doesn’t require surgery and allows you to change your mind, should you wish to. Price wise, at 320euro for 5 years it’s good value too, considering that BCP is about 10euro a month.
(Statistically, Childless people under 30 have a higher rate of requesting reversals and/or suing doctors who sterilised them. Many OB/Gyns don’t want to take that risk, and a blanket policy is more reliable than a case-by-case basis.)

I’m already surgically sterilized, side effect from cancer surgery.

I wouldn’t keep it.

I’m 21 and barely make $1000 a month. I have health insurance, but adding a baby to my plan would KILL me financially. I’d probably have to move back in with one of my parents, but then I’d have to leave the state and quit my job…leaving me without health insurance. The poor kid wouldn’t have a chance.

However, if I did find myself pregnant right now, I would give it up for adoption. I’m pro-choice, and I support any woman who feels as though abortion is her only option - but after my pregnancy scare last year and having had to actually think about it…I just would not be able to. There are so many people out there who can’t have kids of their own, the least I could do was turn my mistake into somebody’s happiness.

Why? speaks the adoptee. Why would you snatch the kid away from the parents who’ve raised it, and who it (presumably) loves?

You can’t do that, throw away responsibility and then expect it to come back to you.

Yes, definitely. I’m almost 30 now, and I think a doctor may be more agreeable to getting my tubes tied. I would prefer my SO gets snipped as well, though, but that requires discussion as I know he’s nervous about it.

> Simply for me, the reasons why as a younger person I would have had an abortion no longer exist for me, which means I would make different decision now - for me, an abortion would no longer be justified based on my moral beliefs (i.e. I want kids and I could happily raise them now).

Me, too, except the very last part - for me, it would say “I might make a different decision now”. While I didn’t use the word “justify” in my original post, I guess that kind of came across.

I’m totally pro-choice. I just realized with this thread that I hadn’t even thought about what I might do in years, nor had I discussed it with my SO. And I realized that for the first time I might make a different decision than automatically deciding on an abortion.

This thread actually prompted a discussion about the issue with my SO this weekend. We’re still of the “so glad this is a hypothetical and we’re not actually having to make this decision” opinion. Neither of us is ready for kids (we aren’t ready to be married and we both want to be married first), but neither of us is opposed to kids in general. So I guess my position remains the same, “I don’t know.” Don’t think that because I don’t know what _I_ would do, that means I’d judge someone else for a decision she were to make. This is such a personal issue.

**Irishgirl** , I think I love you!! My doc wouldn’t entertain a tubal ligation for me, and told me that you could only have a Mirena if you’d had kids.
What a wench.
Time for a new doc for me, I reckon
Thanks

That’s pretty much my situation, plus I’m on the pill to ward off menstrual cramping, anyway. Adding a hysterectomy to the surgical procedure to get rid of this issue would only increase recovery time/costs/physician resistance.

I would be suprised, with a little panic at first but it would be ok. We want more kids, but our first is just about to turn one and I would prefer to wait a little. I’m sure we would get over it though, and ultimately we would be happy about it. I would start saving money and vacation hours toward maternity leave and ask our day care provider if she has an opening. Then pull the plug on the backyard renovation and start on the spare room instead!
