> I’m a man, and I’m not remotely offered by “mansplaining.” Neither of the vast majority of men I know. The only people I’ve ever met who were offended by it were men who found the concept of feminism as a whole offensive on some level.

So?

I think it is sexist. I don’t find feminism offensive - I am a feminist.

So there we are. Different opinions.

> I am of the opinion that feminists ought to have sons and MRAs ought to have daughters. Many people suddenly reconsider their gender-political views once it’s their son or daughter that has to deal with misandry or misogyny that the feminist or MRA might have previously dismissed with a hand wave.

Possibly, but if that were true, we’d have had equality long ago, perhaps. Yet men have been raising daughters to be compliant and with limited choices in life, and women have been raising sons to be sexist, privileged dicks, for millennia. Maybe your comment only applies to modern times.

> Male, came up through the “worst” period of feminism (1970s), had “sexist” pointed my way because it was true, reconsidered especially after having three daughters and seeing how they could be screwed by society. There’s nothing like daughters to make one a feminist. May I assume the OP has none?

I love this kind of question.

The question is completely irrellevant. As I’ve said before, I am not the issue, and the validity of my opinions has absolutely nothing to do with my personal situation.

However, since you’re wrong, I’m going to answer anyway just to stick it to you. I have more than one daughter (I won’t say how many because I’m very wary of giving out too much personal info on the internet).

It occurs to me that we men can now use “womansplaining” any time someone says “mansplaining,” and what are they gonna do, complain? Just have to figure out exactly what “womansplaining” means.

Ran into this item. Says it perfectly:

> Hey there. Is there any chance that we could deep six the splaining meme? You know, mansplaining, straightsplaining, whitesplaining, and all their myriad offshoots. I get that it’s a useful term, but it’s gotten out of hand. Obviously we should all be careful when we talk about things outside our personal experience, and nobody gets a pass when they say something stupid. Still, we should all be allowed to talk about sensitive subjects as best we can without instantly being shot down as unfit to even hold an opinion.
>
> The splaining meme is quickly becoming the go-to ad hominem of the 2010s, basically just a snarky version of STFU that combines pseudosophisticated mockery and derision without any substance to back it up. Maybe it’s time to give it a rest and engage instead with a little less smugness and narcissism.

> I’ve heard the opposite as well, that there’s nothing like sons to make a feminist realize that boys and men have their own challenges that women don’t experience.

I have one of each. My daughter has continued to make me more feminist (and I was pretty feminist before - I have a woman’s studies minor and everything). My son has not convinced me that men or boys have any challenges I wasn’t aware of long before I had a son. Well, one, but that has more to do with him being a minority than a boy - be careful if a cop stops you. Hands out of pockets on steering wheel or behind your head. No sudden movements. And say nothing except “am I being detained” and if the answer is yes answer all questions with “I need to have my parent’s attorney present.”
