Hell, _Ferris Bueller’s Day Off_ is on every day of every week on some channel or another. Sometimes multiple channels. Can you really be arrested for having sex with a 17-year-old? Isn’t that over the age of consent, like, everywhere? Or is this a statutory-rape thing? ---

The laws obviously don’t apply if the parties involved are married, but that could require parental permission. I worked with a guy not long ago who married his wife when he was 19 and she 17. Her mother signed a consent form. They’re still married, 19 years later. ---

Age of consent laws are decided by the state and thus the actual age and the punishment vary as one crosses state lines. In Kansas, for instance, the age of consent is 16 (KSA 21-3505 if anyone is interested (and I only have it memorized because I looked it up last week (for a class))). So a 17 year old is ok to shag in Kansas. But sodomy laws are still on the books and it’s a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail. I have no idea what the laws are like in CA. ---

I’d forgotten that the age difference could be the issue. And, of course, the child-porn possession, if it’s true. I was assuming that CA would have more liberal consent/sex laws than average, but that may not be the case. ---
