The Disc Wars were pretty cool too I thought. It might even be possible to create it with the proper equipment and playing stage. Also along these lines, [Base Wars](http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/base-wars/). It was a Nintendo game where robots played baseball, and for the most part it used the same rules as the normal game, but when tagging someone out it turned into direct combat. The winner of the combat determines if the runner is out or safe. Combat included such things as a hand gun, flame thrower, laser blaster, katana, or a rocket-powered fist. So, basically mix baseball and Battlebots. ---

In a couple of short stories, Robert Heinlein speculated that, in a large air-filled space, in the Moon’s gravity, it would be possible to strap wings to your arms, and fly by your own muscle power. In one of Harry Harrison’s “Stainless Steel Rat” books, the hero visits a planet that was colonized by Hispanics. He is invited to watch a bullfight. He is told that it involves a pair of mutated animals with boxing gloves. ---

My fanwank is that it used to be much, much harder to catch the Golden Snitch, back when broom magicology was less advanced. We’re told of Quidditch matches that lasted for days. ---

Previously mentioned, the original Rollerball is my usual answer. It’s (almost?) unique for a fictional sport in that the game actually makes sense, and just by watching the movie, you can figure out the rules, and also the strategies that each team uses. Most other fictional sports have some aspect that just doesn’t make sense in a real sport (See: Golden Snitch), or which require technologies we don’t have and possibly never will (See: zero- or low-gravity sports). We could play Rollerball today if we wanted to. ---

I’d watch magical flying Quiddich if they got rid of the Golden Snitch. It makes the game pointless. ---
