Now that I think of it, Bruce Wayne tends to live below his means, Stately Wayne Manor or no.
One servant?!? On a spread that big? Please! Need at least 2 gardeners for that joint.

There simply have to be robots. Maybe not HUMANOID 'bots, but Wayne Manor just has to be largely automated; it’s too big for any non-speedster to do the upkeep, and a human staff would be an idiotic security risk.
Sorry about posting the sig twice–an error only.
I don’t understand how Adrian Monk can afford to hire a personal assistant – not even a crappily paid one.
Homer’s worked as a nuclear safety officer for quite a while. He doesn’t live in a mansion or in a particularly great town.
I always wondered how Jean from As Time Goes By managed to afford to live in that house in Holland Park. She was, after all, only running a secretarial agency.
I never remember Poirot or Holmes mentioning pay. I always assumed there was a rich client inbetween the police work, or a rich line in expenses.
In contrast, private eyes in film noir always seem to be on the button with money and expenses up front and live in their offices.
Remember that Frasier had a highly successful private practice and lecturer career back in Boston. I always assumed he lived off his investment income after moving to Seattle.
Yeah, not to mention that nifty apartment in San Francisco. SF’s a very expensive city. How much does a consulting detective make, anyway?
And they showed Leland Stottlemeyer’s house once. Seems he lived (before his divorce) in a lovely craftsman in a swanky upscale suburb that looked suspiciously like Pasadena to me.
Rockford never got paid, but not because he didn’t want to get paid and didn’t make a point of trying to get paid! He was very money conscious and frugal. Most of the TV PIs never even talked about their fees, while Rockford’s fee was right there explicit in his Yellowpages ad, $200 per day plus expenses.
Poirot was already retired as a high-ranking police officer, IIRC. As for Holmes, I believe there were several times when it was stated or implied that he had no qualms about accepting money and gifts from wealthy clients and could, therefore, afford to do some pro bono work here and there.
How much does a popular radio personality in a metropolitan area get paid? I’d believe either very little or a lot, but presumably it was enough to lure Fraiser away from his successful practice, so it must be a couple hundred thousand a year.
Nitpick: Interns are only interns for one year.
I don’t think I can remember one day that Ozzie Nelson left for work.
I think it’s probably easier to name the characters who did live exactly where there putative income would indicate.
Archie Bunker
Fred Sanford
Mary Richards
Jim Rockford
Barney Miller
And I’ll give a pass to the Bunch, assuming Mike was a partner in the architecture firm and not just an employee.
Widow and widower - probably had big life insurance policies on their previous spouses…
I was surprised that Carla would move in when she and Turk got married, but that could be explained away as something that was intended to be a temporary situation. In the episode where JD moves out, it’s clear this arrangement worked out for them as far as chores and stuff went.
The movie Notting Hill,Grants character would have never been able to own his shop in that area as it is a notoriously expensive part of London.
Going back quite a while I always wondered how the cops in Miami Vice could afford the designer clothes, the sports cars and the yacht without being on the take and selling on seized drugs.
(Also I always thought that Vice dealt with prostitution anr porn and stuff not drugs)
Thus opening up the rumor of the sinister Brady Murder Cult.
I believ they occasionally referred to all the pricey stuff as having been seized in prior drug busts. It was just luck that so many other drug dealers bought designer clothes and were a perfect fit for Crocket and Tubbs.
