You don’t need a conviction. You need a FIFA head with balls who will release the unedited report on the Russia and Qatar scandal, move both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, and suspend South Africa as well as Morocco and any other country involved in bribery from international play for the appropriate time.
Fuck Russia and Qatar if their stadiums are half built. Maybe Qatar can use theirs for indoor skiing, while Russia can have moto-cross and Monster trucks in theirs. Not my problem, fuck both these scumbag countries. A hard lesson for all countries to learn from.
Salt Lake City may have had it’s own level of corruption, but it was at least a good venue with great snow and infrastructure and access. Not a damn thing close to Qatar.
Finally this scandal grabbed a local corrupt politician, Jack Warner. Sadly I don’t think other local politicians are associated to international sports that could be investigated for fraud. But at least it is something!
*Oh, the migrant workers of the firms who build the infrastructure of the housing for the migrant workers building the infrastructure for the hosting of the 2022 World Cup which might not be happen, were just passing by… *
Yeah, I wouldn’t want to have to be the one to tell the Russians that the tournament they won is being rescinded, despite all the “gifts” that were undoubtedly given. I’m betting many such gifts originated from men you don’t screw over.
Nothing is going to happen to Russia for a few reasons: 1) Russia is a UEFA country. UEFA may make lots of noise about Qatar, but they aren’t going screw over one of their own, 2) The Russia WC is scheduled for 3 years from now and any conviction/proof of bribery likely won’t happen until next year or 2 years from now; they aren’t going to switch it from Russia that quick if they were interested in switching venues.
And there’s no major question about Russia’s playing facilities or visitor accommodations or climate/playability or general ability to make it happen successfully, either.
Serious question, since I know little about FIFA or the bidding process for the World Cup and other tournaments.
Is FIFA guilty of anything substantially more corrupt and sinister than, say, the NFL (which regularly promises the Super Bowl to cities that cough up tax money to build new stadiums for local franchises)?
