One hell of a lot of Colombian drug money was lost due to that goal. ---

Wow. How do you say “Four-leaf clover covered horseshoe” in Japanese? I have the sinking feeling that the champions will be the worst team out of the last four? And, for the record, that’s two more penalty kicks that should not have been (first one was outside the box, second one wasn’t a foul. Though Japan did get away with one later at the edge of the box, so they can’t complain that much). Is this a record for biggest percentage of goals scored by PKs in any major tournament? (excluding tie-breaking PKs) ---

(sigh) We’re all aware of the results of the 2012 Olympic women’s soccer competition, right? The U.S. won the gold medal with a 2-1 victory over… Japan. So, basically, this will be the third straight worldwide championship involving these same two teams. That’s… kind of boring. I really wanted England to win just so we wouldn’t have to see a(nother) rematch. And I feel just heartbroken for the English player. Well, the whole team, really, but her most acutely. That finish was one of the cruelest things I’ve ever seen in sports. ---

Pretty touching how elated England are to win the 3rd place match… pretty exciting game, although another unsatisfying PK (albeit probably the right call). On another note, the most adorable celebration I’ve ever seen is the Japanese team’s spiral dance… but I can’t find it on youtube. ---

I’m pleased England won. They earned it. The referee was not so good but in the long run, did not really affect the out come IMO. No call was about even and of similar things but still, not so good for this level. A talking head ex player said that Germany would not be happy with how the team played & why they lost. Head coach is in for a rough ride for a few days. Going to RIO I understand it was her last World Cup so … She’ll be fine. Proud of all the ladies. A lot of heart & soul and body parts given in this tournament by both these teams. ---

Messis family was roughed up at the Copa America final yesterday. Between that and the Chilean player sticking his finger up the ass of Cavani its taken some of the luster off of their impressive tournament. ---

“Japan will attempt to become the first back-to-back champions since Germany did it in 2003 and 2007”. You mean, the most recent possible time it could have happened?
