It’s never a good idea to clear a ball with an uncontrolled header to the center…
It might have been a good game had that goal been scored earlier.
I was wrong!
And go Canada!
Completely deserved by South Africa who offered no urgency or desire to attack. Deservedly going home.
Right on. Next round, then.
EDIT: TO think how badly Canada will get lambasted by Mor. / Bel., especially the latter, and especially if Can. plays as sub-par as they did today.
Canada goes through. Stunning!
Unbelievable. What a game…
Canada didn’t win. South Africa lost.
After 1-0’ing the passive South Koreans who offered no urgency or desire to attack, the South African’s then got 1-0’d by Canada because of South Africa offering no urgency or desire to attack.
I realize that was the best game played by Canadian men ever. I understand, based on last night alone, Portugal or Colombia would crush Canada.
I’m going to just enjoy the moment.
Me too. And set quick-drinking records.
You’ve attained World Cup illumination.
The future is uncertain and almost surely negative, the present is what matters, enjoy it while it lasts.
Just as a friendly reminder of Canada’s ultimate, supreme, glorious domination in the WC and footy world in general… ![]()
They had a few moments early in the match.
I don’t think “lambasted” is the right word there. ![]()
Anyway, Canada isn’t as good a team as they are; there’s no shame in that. If they were to beat either Belgium or Morocco it’d be one of the biggest upsets in recent World Cup history. The world’s 30th ranked team should not beat the world’s #6 or #10.
This has been a tremendous World Cup for Canada, an absolutely massive step forward, no matter what happens in the next game.
Awesome to see Canada go through and I’m very happy for Eustaquio and also happy that it was a clean shot on goal rather than some random deflection or an OG. Having said that, if Canada plays a similar game in the next match they’re going to get smashed.
Has there been this many players slipping in earlier games at this stadium? It seemed like players were having their feet go out from under them a lot, and it’s not like it’s raining in an indoor stadium ![]()
I was wondering that too.
The surface at SoFi is a grass field they literally installed just for the World Cup; the stadium’s normal surface is a synthetic. Maybe it’s loose?
If they beat Belgium it would be the surprise of the century: it would mean they have reached the final if that picture is right. But first Netherlands or, yes, indeed, Morocco await. One step at a time.
I’ve seen water being sprayed on the grass during the hydration breaks.
It’s beautiful too see y’all get in the spirit of the thing.
Exactly, one at a time: first Netherlands, then France, then Belgium. Then Argentina, why not
. We get a week to dream big.
Canada becomes a good trivia answer as the first ever winner of a round of 32 match.
