FIFA World Cup 2026 - discussion etc

Yes. In two 15 minute mini-halfs.

Darn close corner kick there.

Haven’t been watching, but just turned it on for PKs and to watch the VAR replay. Maybe I’m being influenced by my bsky follows, but that’s a foul; deliberately set a pick on the keeper.

Woltemade really thought his approach was deceptive, but seemed obvious what he was going to do the entire time.

Holy shit.

Man, this is tight.

Oh my.

Paraguay wins! Germany out!

Germany out!

First time Germany has ever exited the knockout rounds on spot kicks.

I can’t enjoy a South American victory (and against Germany! our (Argentina’s) nemesis!) as I would like to because I’m sad for EinsteinHund.
You all will come back from this friend, you always do.

I am shattered at that result. I’d have been happier if it ended with a 1-0 loss at halftime

This obviously means the US is the greatest team in the world.

France loves this result.

Germany have been a mess since winning the WC huh? (well, their results have been)

From a betting standpoint, that has to be one of the biggest upsets in this Cup.

FIFA Rankings: 41 beats 10.
ELO: 22 beat 10.

Massive upset either way.

France may have had it easier with Germany. Paraguay has beaten Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay in the qualifiers for this World Cup (no friendly matches there, no mean feat) and now they have beaten Germany. We shall see.

But to hear (present company excluded) Europeans tell it the World Cup is an Euro with Argentina and Brazil, they don’t know how it feels to have to fight these demons (and Colombia! and Ecuador!).

By median team, CONMEBOL has to be heads and shoulders above other confederations.

Ok, I get the Dutch/Oranje thing, but these uniforms are difficult to watch.

Decent first half. Morocco outplayed the Dutch, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Holy crap. What a goal by the Orange!
