Well poop. I need the underdogs to win.
It was the keeper’s fault, he should have stayed on the line.
The only such 3rd place team to advance, maybe, but didn’t Cape Verde finish 2nd in their group with 3 points (from 3 ties)?
Correct.
Need to see it again but looked like a push on the defender by Tielemens. Got away with it though.
Man, the difference between ‘the beautiful game’ and ‘the charming personality game’.
I was thinking the same thing. If he hadn’t moved forward in an attempt to punch it away, he would have been in a position to save it.
What a game. I have no real preference in winner, but what a game. Tense stuff.
Why did that decision take so long?
Oh man. Penalty kick.
Bad call.
Bummer way to go out.
And now about 45 minutes of stoppage time.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul shit.
I tend to agree. The defender kicking the attacker is the supposed foul, which can be justified, but you could also say the defender was about to clear the ball before the attacker stick his leg in the way from behind. To me, the biggest issue is that by calling the foul you’re saying that defenders shouldn’t try to clear balls from in front of the goal lest some attacker stick their leg in and you’re kicking them, which would of course be absurd. I think they should have just let the play stand.
I feel terrible for Senegal.
Right. To me, the challenge of ball was reasonable and at the very least not worthy of a penalty kick.
Senegal just got 2018 Japan’d.
Japan, too, led Belgium 2-0 then lost 3-2 in extra time.
So England had to come back from a 0-1 deficit and Belgium from an 0-2 hole. Advice for the USA–score 3 or more goals.
What a day.
After two action-filled, exciting games, I’m hoping for a nice, sedate, 3-0 US win. Especially since they scheduled it during a rehearsal and I’ll have to watch it later (while studiously avoiding the internet), and I’ll be up past my bedtime.
Same advice applies to Bosnia & Herzegovina. Make it four to be sure, don’t trust the referees.
