Not watching this, but following the live commentary I get the impression I’m not missing much.
It’s one of those strange games where two strong teams have too much respect for each other to really play the football they have in them.
Yeah, it feels like they’re both waiting for the perfect chance to commit to the attack, and it’s never quite happening because they’re both more committed to defense.
Hence, that last Spanish cross…
This is not the Battle of Iberia I was expecting.
Spain has been allergic to attacking for decades. They won the 2010 WC almost on accident. I wonder if their domestic champs’ ability to just give it to Ronaldo or Messi for so long messed with development.
They won the Euros 2 years ago. Hardly an indication that they’re struggling!
And Spain gets their favorite scoreline!
Didn’t say they struggle. Just that there allergic to attack
Timing is everything.
YES! I wanna see Ronaldo cry once again!
oh dear. spain 1-0.
not much extra time.
That assist-pass was very smooth and tricky.
6 minutes or so of time.
Spain finally got the ball between the lines with a runner ready for a through ball. 1-0.
I thought that portugal header went in from the original angle.
And that clinches it! Crybaby Ronaldo will never win the WC, hehehe!
Haven’t been watching the Spain-Portugal match, but it sounds like tactically it’'s been sort of like sprint cycling in a velodrome, where both sides are decidedly cautions in the first couple of laps and hope a furious finish will take them across the line in first.
1-0 spain moves on.
Anybody wanna bet that CR7 shows up in 2030?
The finish was the same as the rest, just eventually connected.
CR7 and Neymar going out within a day of each other (and possibly never returning to the WC) is like Christmas in July!
