FIFA World Cup 2026 - discussion etc

Absolutely nothing. Ahem, in both cases.

Damn you both. I was just about to make that joke…

Well…let’s look at the tape…maybe they did it too soon, or too late and you still have a chance…

Apologies; I’ve restored that one.

Thank you. I wasn’t offended, really just trying to set up the joke that Maserschmidt lobbed in front of the goal for me.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!

Kind of late with this, but after watching the Argentina - Switzerland replay last night, I am more than a little annoyed with the Fox 1 delivery. I was so used to the Paramount replays with their minor faults, buy what in earth made Fox believe that cutting large periods of play (including the period where the Swiss player got his second yellow and send-off) seems bewildering and random. This only seems to be happening now. I do not remember this happening in the group rounds, but stand ready to be corrected. That and the announcers seemingly being paid by the word makes the replays less than enjoyable to me.

They absolutely seem unable to shut up for a moment.

That’s probably because they are also broadcasting on radio. Which I was glad for last week because I could follow the game on my commute home.

Problem to me is that very little of the commentary is actually about the game. It is opinion, celebs in the stands and multiple references to games past and future. There is a time for amiable silence.

mr haaland had a wonderful time in dallas… he even found a drinking buddy.

Erling Haaland returns to Norway after World Cup exit with a strange new friend

on to france and spain today at 3 eastern us. will it be a tie game going to penalty kicks?

He had the excuse that he was pretending to eat grass like a cow, not that it made things any better :joy:

Looks at the date…
… Boy, a substandard France performance today would be particularly awkward.

I’m upset that it isn’t later in the day…as it is I will be able to see only half of it (kind of) I have a meeting as well around that time. I will no doubt receive messages about it while it is happening from my family, so there will be no way to avoid knowing the result before seeing the replay.

Must admit, the kick off times for these semis definitely seem aimed at the European audience (not that I am complaining!). Bit rough on the American (N, S & C) fans, considering they are on work days.

This happened to me during Germany - Brazil in 2014 (I’m a Germany fan). My boss’s staff meeting ran across the first half, but I consoled myself with the thought that I’d watch an exciting second half on my work computer. By the time I got back to my desk, I already had congratulatory texts from friends.

It makes sense considering every World Cup apart from the first has had between 2 and 4 semi finalists from Europe

I can’t believe I hadn’t spotted that. If I hadn’t already decided to watch this match, that would definitely clinch it.

The video is from a global feed and Fox doesn’t control it.

OTOH, those of us retired Americans are okay with the kickoff times the rest of the week.

Just wondering, however…if by some miracle, the USA side had made it this far, would the kickoff time be at, say, 8:00 Eastern time? I’m guessing yes.
