FIFA World Cup 2026 - discussion etc

They really are a dirty, snide team. I thought I disliked the Paraguay side. We have a new champion.

Well, for a spell.

Yes, it was a professional foul stopping a counter attack. Very common reason for a yellow.

I did not think it was worth the yellow card. Who knows what the ref has told the players.

The German commentator for ARD Tom Bartels, legendary for his commentary in the 2014 Germany-Argentina final, already called this game the “Battle of Atlanta”…

Of course it was a yellow, stopping, quite deliberately, a counter attack. Should’ve been a yellow for foul on Bellingham in attacking position too, only got a free kick. Deliberately trip.

There’s a Sherman joke there somewhere.

Where’s Peabody when you need him?

Man, it’s not often you see time called on a corner.

I have never wanted us to stuff a team so badly before. They are just such a cynical, dirty side.

I guess that I don’t understand the standard. Things that seem worse, to me, go uncalled.

Maybe thought of a bit better like intentionally committing pass interference when beat to prevent the sure touchdown?

Sorry, my answer probably came across a bit rude. I am just rather wound up by this match because the ref is letting Argentina get away with a lot.

I think both teams are deserving of at least 3 yellows each. I think the ref is just trying to keep it under control.

Being too lenient rarely is a good way for a ref to keep a game under control…

Ninja’d as I started typing. This is CONCACAF refereeing so far.

Bellingham’s tackle (unless we’re thinking about something else) was going for the ball IMO and didn’t necessitate a yellow. Shirt pulls cannot be legitimate so easy yellow.

Argentina is definitely doing a lot of fouling and shit-housing, but how soft are England? Stop your whining and either get stuck in or score a goal to shut them up. You guys never have to battle for your clubs?

Well you’d think England would have been ready for that after Mexico.

True, but he’s calling the fouls, he’s just keeping the cards in his pocket. I’ve never seen 19 fouls with only 2 cards.

This is a good point. I think Argentina are probably the kings of this, but good warmup especially in Azteca.

Did you see the replay? Clear trip nowhere near the ball and not even trying to get it.

Edit - ah, you may be talking about a tackle by Bellingham, I am talking about one on him
