# Figures, heavy fog = big mess.

Actually, I believe the accident occured in Georgia. It’s only _near_ Chattanooga. At least 10 dead, last I heard. With 20 big rigs involved, I think we can all expect more than that. ☹
My dad was supposed to leave for Atlanta last night but he (thankfully, now) got delayed until this morning. I am so, so, so happy for that.

Wow right at the start of morning rush hour. I’m still half asleep until till I get to work. No wonder so many people were involved.
These types of accidents aren’t unique to TN. They are also very common in Northern California. Last spring they had one involving 100 cars as I recall.
I just finished an investigation into a 17-car pile up in Nevada. No fatalities but some very serious injuries in those who ended up under the one semi involved.

My family is in Chattanooga, and I drive that road fairly regularly. There are some curves coming through there, and if you lose visibility, it would be easy to have a pileup like this. I have spoken to all my family and no one was driving I75 this morning. I immediately called my brother when I heard, because when we talked Sunday, he and some friends were planning a trip to Atlanta today. It was canceled because he had to work.
The last big pileup(because of fog) near Chattanooga was when I was in High School, near the Bowater plant in Calhoun(?), TN. We lost one person from our high school in that one, and now there are fog warning signs in that area. News tonight says that Georgia is testing them as well.

Oh jeez, Gunny and I are going to be taking that road on Saturday. People from the area, is fog a problem all the time, or only under certain conditions/at certain times of the day? We’ll be passing through in the early evening; should we be nervous?

\*\* racinchikki \*\* , it’s been rare that I’ve seen heavy fog in that area. Check your weather though, because Saturday is supposed to be rainy, at least in the Atlanta area.
When I have seen fog in that area, it usually clears out through Chattanooga. The area in Chattanooga that tends to have fog is more over on I-24 as you head toward Alabama. That tends to be morning fog from the river though.

I didn’t say that too well. While I have seen it on occasion, it usually clears out through Chattanooga. That’s the point of my second paragraph there. 😉

Thanks, **Lsura**. I remember seeing a touch of fog in the morning when I went southwards on that road earlier this year (out past Chattanooga, in a curvey kinda-near-some-mountains-I-thinkbit on the way into Alabama). Since we’ll be driving carefully because of the rain anyway, we ought to be fine, I guess. 🙂
