And while, in an ideal world, we’re making decent Heinlein movies, why not \*\*Glory Road \*\*? and **Citizen of the Galaxy** and **Between Planets** and, and…OK, I’m better now In a completely different vein, the **Matt Helm** books as written by Donald Hamilton — particularly the first few — have a gritty feel to them completely unlike the stupid Dean Martin movies, which borrowed only the titles. I hope Hamilton held them up for a bundle. Similarly, the **Travis Magee** series begs to be made properly. Rod Taylor just wasn’t Magee. And I dearly want to see Meyer portrayed properly ---

I would love to see **Death Race 2000** remade, with the same dark humour, but with modern road carnage as seen on the interstate scene of Matrix Reloaded. **elfkin477** have you seen the Kurosawa, MacBeth set in Feudal Japan? ---

I’ll one billionth a vote for _Starship Troopers_ and throw in _Metropolis_ (though I doubt even Lucas could make the quality of the effects in the original). ---

**Journey To The Center Of The Earth** and let Peter Jackson do it. **Fritz The Cat** let Pixar do the X-rated version. **Oliver Twist** starring Michael Jackson as Fagen, directed by Tim Burton. ---

I have yet to see a decent version of _A Tree Grows in Brooklyn_, my all time favorite book. The two I did see were awful. ---

**Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?** No, _Down With Love_ doesn’t count. A new version with today’s morals would be interesting. The original is a funtastic romp, but it’s a bit dated. Put John Cusak or even petty boy boy Brad Pitt in Tony Randall’s place, give him a dark edge with a hint of conscience. Now _THAT_ would be a cool movie! :dubious: ---

I would like to see the _Jurassic Park_ that Crichton wrote (maybe it wasn’t _that_ great, but it was a damn sight better than what Spielberg gave us). I’d also like to see some old WWII movies updated: _The Battle of the Bulge_ (the original was a major disappointment, in my opinion), _The Longest Day_, _Midway_, even _Tora! Tora! Tora!_, could all be done well with modern FX. We’ve already seen how impressive a D-Day landing _can_ be on film, and the attack scene in _Pearl Harbor_ gave some insight as to how the attack on Pearl Harbor _could_ be filmed (if it weren’t burdened by a shipload of suck and hammy actors). ---

**All the Pretty Horses** –and cast a sixteen year old to play John Grady Cole this time, not Matt Damon! **Unbreakable** –Fascinating concept, but needed a better, tighter script. M. Night Shyamalan comes up with great ideas, but develops them poorly. ---

A seconding to **War of the Worlds** , done as a period piece faithful to the time of the book. (As an extra, the DVD would contain a film short version of a somewhat-recent short story titled “Night of the Cooters,” which involved the invading Martians of the book learning not to mess with Texas.) **Remo Williams**. Give me the insanely goofy sun-source nonsense-fu of the books, dagnabbit. The **Prophecy** trilogy of b-flicks; keep Walken as Gabriel, keep the basic gist of things, but rip out the rest of the cast and do some direction-and-writing surgery, stat. ---

I always thought that _Capricorn One_ was an interesting concept (gov’t faked Mars landing) that has aged poorly on account of cheesy 70’s special effects. With today’s special effects this could make an entertaining thriller. Plus, with the amount that’s been written in recent days about JFK, conspiracy theories and government distrust are still as popular as ever. ---

The movie was horrendous the first time I saw it, but I still read the book…best book ever. The movie is actually somewhat bearable now that I’ve read the book and know what it is _supposed_ to be like, but still to hack up a classic that much - HOW?!?! I would LOVE to see the intro of that book put into a movie. I actually printed the first chapter and mailed it to my brother-in-law, a Marine on duty in Iraq. ---

**Star Wars I and II** need to be de-suckified. Hard. **Mission to Mars** : In this movie, we obey the laws of thermodynamics! And also physics! **The Grinch** and **The Cat in the Hat** : Would be erased from history. **Charlie and the Chocolate Factory** : Willy Wonka is funny instead of creepy. Ditto Oompah-Loompahs. Zero 60s drug paranoia trips / menacing adults. (Words can’t convey how much I hate the Gene Wilder version that everyone seems to love.) ---

I’m not sure if this counts as a remake, but I wish someone would try a live-action **Popeye** movie again. I really disliked the Robert Altman movie. I’d like to see a version that captured the characters from the **Thimble Theater** comic strip, as well as some of the feeling from the early cartoons.
