Hit reply too soon:

“Withnail and I” a cult favorite? - I’ve never even _heard_ of that film… ever until seeing it in this thread and googling it.

Well, it’s a pretty small cult, but what they lack in numbers they make up for in fauxpretendpretentiousness.

Pooh! No movie’s fans are anything compared to “Phantom Phans.” Those lovers of the ALW stage musical raise phanaticism to a new art. They are phreaking riduculous. Though, if you look at it right, you might find it awphully phunny. Spending beaucoup bucks to see the production hundreds of times, and arguing over who is the best Phantom.

As to the rest of you: AMATEURS.

Y’know, I almost bitched you out for your first comment there. Then, cursor hovering over “Submit Reply”, I thought _hmm… **Cisco** …what do I know about him?_, and I recalled that you’d always struck me as pretty nice guy. I don’t remember what in particular inspired that notion, but it was there. So, with that, I figured you were most probably joking, let it slide, and got on with life. Good to know my instincts were accurate. Oh, and thanks anyway for the defense, **Aesiron** ; it was a much more succinct version of what I almost posted.

From what I’ve seen on other message boards, it’s fans think it should be more popular so they act as if it’s a really popular “classic movie” so then it might become one.

They’re basically trying to create a self-fulfillnig prophecy.

which is a better Beatles rip-off than anything Oasis did, except **Whatever**.
Back on track: LoTR fans who say the books are better than the movies.
People who claim the Sirector’s cut is better than the original **Blade Runner**.
Woody Allen fans in general.
Coen Brother fans in particular. Their movies aren’t deep. They make pop corn movies for liberal arts majors.

Heh, no, it wasn’t your sister but some acquaintances I used to know and am still in sporadic contact with.

Taken alone, they weren’t so bad but all three of them together was sheer torture. Of course, it didn’t help that one is a complete fratboy asshole stereotype with the movie tastes to match and another fancies himself a twentysomething Roger Ebert with aspirations of being the next Spielberg. The third one was fairly normal but added to the cacophony and there were times I thought I’d go mad from all the references.

No matter how humorous it originally was, quoting entire blocks of dialogue is not funny. Especially after the dozenth time.

…the hell? You took one line – seven words out of a 477-word post, the other 470 of which had nothing to do with Jennifer Aniston, flair, or anything thus regarding – and from that, determined that the driving point of my post was:

If that’s all you gleaned from that post, I suggest that you “read the _words_ that I wrote :p” again. The rest of 'em aren’t just there for decoration.

Hehe… no, that was a long time ago. I’m 35. These days, I’m happy if I can drag somebody to see a film with me. Come to think of it, we did have some Star Wars fans in my class in high school, but they kept pretty much to themselves and swapped trading cards…

Dear Og! My 68 year old MOTHER went to see the movie…and fell in love.

She’s gone to see it at least 3 times, dragging myself & my (12 year old) daughter along once. The other 2 times (that I’m aware of) she’s seen BY HERSELF. She bought the soundtrack (and a CD player) in order to play it over & over. Somehow she convinced herself on this past Friday that it was coming out on video Saturday and seriously asked me if she should buy a DVD player so she could get the DVD version instead of the VHS version - and she’s on a somewhat limited income.

She did try to get me to go see it with her again this weekend - I refused. I thought it was ok, but I don’t particularly LIKE anything by ALW except _Cats_.

Oh well, I suppose there are unhealthier additions, but it’s taken her until this age to become a rabid fan? Goodness, what are the older people coming to? 😉

Back to topic, I have yet to see “Lost in Translation” myself, but I have scene so many ‘fans’ of the film yell and generally put down people that don’t like the film. I have heard people that don’t like the film called morons, unintelligent, cannot sit through five minutes without tits, explosions or exploding tits.

You know, I normally like slower paced films, but the level of hate I have scene that movie generate has really put me off seeing it (plus I most be like the only person in the world that doesn’t like Scarlett Johansen).

**Life of Brian** is #14. I’d probably change it with **Holy Grail** , but then again I don’t think either are annoying and love them both (as well as **The Big Lebowski** and **Star Wars** … I’m scared for myself…)

I’d also replace **Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back** with **Clerks**. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve had to hear “and I wasn’t even supposed to beee here today”!

Why isn’t “Kill Bill” on that list?

People _rave_ about that movie, but it bored me silly.

I enjoy a little violence at the movies as much as the next person, but “Kill Bill” was overkill (pun intended). I just become numb to the violence and lost interest in the fight scenes. I wanted to scream, “Just **die** already!”

In general, I think Tarantino’s overrated, though I _loved_ “From Dusk till Dawn.”

A few years ago, all of the “cool kids” could not shut up about **High Fidelity**. If you were pretentious enough, you’d quote lines from this film every other minute. I’ve fallen asleep during this movie, but I’m sure I’m not missing anything
