ack, is that Her Alibi? You _ought_ to be ashamed…

Simply ignore the fact that I knew the movie, carry on…

I second teen movies for things I do not admit I like (except on the internet, I guess), but really enjoy. Especially 10 Things, which I rationalize by pointing to the Shakespearian roots of the movie.

And I will go on record as enjoying Dude. I thought it was much better and far more clever than anything with Dude in the name has a right to be. I have watched it more than once, and still laughed–which I cannot say about every movie.

And here is my confession: The Replacements. I don’t even like football, and I have lost track of the number of times I have watched that movie. I also liked Unnecessary Roughness. I enjoyed Remember the Titans. And Bring It On (which was about cheerleaders, but still). I admit it only here: I like football movies–but they must be cheesy football movies. I don’t like basketball movies, or baseball ones, but I did like Bend it Like Beckham, which doesn’t count because lots of people liked that one. I even like Drumline, which is about a marching band. Is there a treatment that I should be aware of?

The entire time I was watching Batman & Robin, I’m thinking:

Dear god, this is awful… But it’s a lot of fun.

How stupid can one movie be?.. It’s better than “Armageddon”

Must. Lobotomize. Self.

DAMN YOU JOEL SCHMACHER!!!

Come on, some of you guys are getting ashamed over liking really good (or at least popular) films. Real shame is liking the Robin Williams Peter Pan film or the Popeye movie, those are films I love and am soreley ashamed of. I even love Silly Stalone’s Judge Dread (and I am an old time 200AD and Tornado reader, so there!)

Okay, you want truely shameful? Here’s truley shameful. I like Patch Adams. Not because it was any good (Lord knows - it blew), but I was an extra in it.

See, that’s me walking past him right there.

See, I’m in the library studying.

See, I’m standing next to the tree smoking a cigarette.

I’m probably devoting more energy to this response than it deserves, but…

musicals are a form of art with particular conventions. So are movies. It makes no more sense to get outraged by musicals than to get all huffy about the fact that there are camera cuts in movies… “I’m watching it from over here… NOW I’M WATCHING IT FROM OVER HERE! What did I do, teleport?”. You just accept that as part of the storytelling device.

(Now, mind you, I’ve never much cared for most old musicals of the “first we have 10 minutes of dialogue, then suddenly 50 guys with ukeleles show up and we have a dance number in the street” variety. But neither of the really good recent musicals, _Moulin Rouge_ and _Chicago_, are like that. For that matter, neither is _Cabaret_).

Oh, and **PookahMacPhellimey** , _Titanic_ truly is a wonderful movie, which is why so many people went to see it, and it got such good reviews, and it won so many oscars. Be proud! Resist the backlash!

Oh, **Bippy**! ::shakes head:: That _is_ real shame. Even as a 10 year old, I knew _ **Popeye** _ sucked…hard.

But I’ll put myself out there, too, since you were so brave. I liked _ **Titanic** _. You’re not alone, **PookahMacPyournameistoolong**. 😉

In fact, I saw it in the theater 4 times and cried every time. :o In my defense, I wasn’t crying about Rose and Jack, but about the actual disaster.

Oh, God, I’d almost forgotten about my secret love of sports movies. And I hate sports! But I’ll watch _Necessary Roughness_ every time I see it on TV. Or _Varsity Blues_, or _Major League_, or _Bull Durham_, or that one, I forget it’s name, with Kurt Russel and Robin Williams as former Highschool football players. Real sports are my kryptonite, but dramatized sports are my crack cocaine.

Movies I’ve come to realize that I shamefully like, because I must watch them when they’re on:

_Executive Decision_

_The Beastmaster_

_Kindergarten Cop_

_Oxford Blues_

_Bachelor Party_

_Runaway_

_They Live!_

_Hopscotch_
That’s all I can think of right now, but I’m sure there’s more.

Yeah, Altman’s version was definitely not made with 10 year olds in mind. It’s a bit of a classic though; worth revisiting as an adult.

Thunderheart

Terrible dialog, clunky story, but it’s sitting on my shelf in between Office Space and Rosemary’s Baby. I have no excuse except that I’m a sucker for Graham Greene.
