# Finally got sober.

Sober life definitely does not have me sitting on the edge of my seat to see the end of thrillers like “when will this hangover end”, “how long will my job put up with this”, and “is that police car watching me.” And of course the classic “can my kids tell I’m drunk.”
Yep, sobriety is definitely boring without these classic cliffhangers. Somehow I’m learning to live without all that excitement.

Good luck! Keep it up, man. Something like 13.5 years sober, I still occasionally have an urge (same 35 yrs after my last cig!) But once you pile up 6 weeks/months/years, a experiment with a drink isn’t worth tossing that all away and going back to step 1. Which is what it is. It isn’t “6 years sober - EXCEPT for a beer last night!” We all know it is - “I drank last night!”)
You are right on the boring is good idea. For me, I get a kick out of the fact that I will NEVER blow drunk if stopped by the cops while driving. At this point, I can’t imagine the sheer quantity of liquid I used to ingest (and piss out!) And I assume you have experienced how stupid most folk are after only a couple of drinks, despite their self conception that they are quicker and wittier than ever?
Part of the boredom is that you simply have more time, because you aren’t spending it drinking, sleeping, or recovering. For folk who can’t control their drinking, sober really is a simpler, and potentially more rewarding life.

You forgot the ever popular "Holy shit! It is 5 minutes till they stop selling booze! How can I possibly get more booze? I’m gonna die without more booze!'. Then the whole running around to get to the store in time…
Don’t miss that at all.

Congrats! Even though I happily drink, I know it’s a very difficult thing to do (from second-hand experience). You should be proud.
