Nothing much here but a sad tale of good TV killed so more reality shows can get money. Having missed all but the first three episodes when they aired, I purchased the Firefly DVD set and have been enjoying them very much on the new 36 inch flat screen the wife insisted we buy(ain’t love grand!). Halfway through the series and I’m a bit sad knowing that this is all there is. I saw _Serenity_ and when I’m done with these episodes, I’ll see no more of the crew saving the day or putting what’s right ahead of profit. Oh well, I still have BSG. ---

Yeah, when I got the DVDs, I blasted through all 14 episodes in a single day. What a rush. And a damn shame, since it’s possible I’ll never get to spend more time with these characters again. I can’t say it was the best show on TV – it didn’t get enough time to prove itself – but it had obvious potential to become something really amazing. How this show got so badly mishandled by Fox I’ll never understand. No advertising, timeslot-of-death, episodes aired out-of-order. And the raitings weren’t even that bad when they pulled the plug. Firefly was doomed before the first episode even aired. Oh well. Keep buying the DVDs folks. It helped Family Guy and Futurama – who knows, maybe we’ll see Firefly’s come back to life… ---

When I watched the DVDs with my husband, I think we were snuffling at the end of _Objects In Space_, because after it… no more _Firefly_. ---

It helps me to think of it as a great 14 hour movie. I’m at least glad we never had to sit through season after season of mediocre episodes as they ran out of ideas. ---

Well I got the Firefly DVD for chirstmas, but I have yet to open it. You see, after the awesomeness that was Serenity, and my lamitable girlfriendless situation, i’m waiting for the perfect hot geeky chick to sit down and watch these with. I have one lined up (well 5 really, but thats another story) so we shall see. 😃 ---

Yeah that’s actually not a bad way of thinking about it. “Firefly: the amazing 14-hour miniseries”, and “Serenity: the awesome 2-hour sequal that ties up (most) of the loose ends”. By the way, if there’s anybody reading this thread who hasn’t seen Firefly/Serenity, you should definitely check out the series first, IMHO. The movie has a lot more emotional impact when you’ve got 14 episodes of character development to back it up. ---

…am I the only one here that knows that the actors have all signed for a trilogy, and all they’re waiting for is to gauge the success of _Serenity_ before starting production on the next two? ---

I donno, from the article it doesn’t seem nearly so final as you make it sound. it was apparently done before DVD sales could be accounted for, anyway. it doesn’t surprise me at all, by the way, that it didn’t blow out the box office. hell, I didn’t even know what it was until it was damn near on DVD. as such, I don’t think it’s reached the pinnacle of its popularity yet. it’ll take a while to reach the non-Whedonites… if it’s ever syndicated, it’ll no doubt experience a huge revival, and meanwhile the DVD sales steadily build… who knows whether it’ll lead to any more movies or episodes or anything at all, but I think it’s currently too early to tell. ---

I think a sizable factor was going with the name “Serenity” unfortunately. Without a big marketing campaign to contradict it, most people would assume it was some sort of chick flick and not give it a second look.
