Johanna, I am an artist; started with painting, and spent more time doing photography professionally. Have ditched that for five years, but am coming back to both through plants. Flowers are my tremendous influence now, have studied them very thoroughly, visually, but with a scientific botanical bent as well. I’ve always loved Georgia O’Keefe. When she was given the old “sexual connotation” blah blah back when, her response was(paraphrasing from memory): no one knows what I see in a flower. Not to compare myself at all to Georgia O’Keefe, but I understand what she was saying. What I see in flowers is some Yoni-ness, but that is quite simplistic. Flowers are come hither for their own reasons, they are all about attraction and therefore, sexual, biologically speaking. It’s all about insects, birds, and wind, though. I look deeply into flowers with that non-human sexual connotation. The curves and loveliness may remind one of human eye-openers, but can be viewed apart from that easily. Yet, the opening factor is the enticing one. Will have to mull about this a bit for better insights… ---

**Tenzin** , that was a very thoughtful post, and a good quote from Georgia O’Keeffe. I deliberately did not invoke O’Keeffe by name in this thread, though of course I was thinking of her. She is the one who got Yoni art started, whether she intended it or not. The fact that so many people _have_ seen Yonis in O’Keeffe’s flowers suggests something to me about the widespread human psychological hunger for the Yoni that hadn’t been acknowledged up until then. If Yoni art has become a cliché in certain circles as **LifeOnWry** observed, it’s partly because of the popular response to Georgia O’Keeffe’s flowers. ---

So, Johanna, have mused a bit today about the subject. Why are vaginal images so taboo? Ya can show titties; hell, everyone has a dreamy blissful remnant of how swellegant that feeding was (mebbe not the bottle-fed, too bad). But the Great Yawning Yoni, that’s kind of terrifying to the small-minded, who, unfortunately, have gained the upper hand, as of the past few centuries. All that opening, cooperation, and scary, unbridled, delightful moaning…must be evil & filthy. So stupid it will make you laugh, of course. It’s hard to believe that people _still_ believe that. You know all this, I’m sure. And, by the use of “Yoni”, you know Eastern philosophy, and probably Tantra, if you follow the yoni trail to any extent: A blending of Wisdom(female), and Skillful Means (Male) to achieve balance. I liked LifeOnWry’s comment: “I think my inner goddess is a dyke” Haha, Beautiful! I hear her on the ON and ON part… I try to participate in a lot of women’s group activities, but when people start yammering about, to me, obvious things, I tend to tune out. I didn’t realise until this discussion, that what I tune out about is women acting in a male dominant mode about feminine principles. Is this true for you, LifeOnWry? I have some more thoughts on natural forms on yoni imagery, but work weekends, teaching people how to see nature unfold, so am tired now. If this thread persists, will post tomorrow. Not sure if my posting style fits with the pace of this board, trying best, though. ---

I don’t know why I’m bothering to post this, but the inside view of an inspection port, sootblower opening, or other penetration through a coal furnace wall is very “yonic”. The tubes go straight up the furnace, then bend around the port in a very elongated oval, and in the centre of the opening formed by the bending is a hole for the port - typically round. When a person squeezes through an inspection port and you’re standing on the other side, it looks like a birthing experience. I have a picture of that happening. I’ve heard at least one post area like that called the “pussy” by the welders inside. Second place would be the tubes going between the upper and lower drum on small boiler. Imagine two circles, one above the other, and lines going out in a smooth, elongated oval from the top to the bottom. One picture I have shows a port in the middle of the opening. It’s not as good as the first one. I guess there are other things that look similar but it’s simple geometric coincidence driven by function. ---

I look forward to Una’s photos, and what she said; “simple geometric coincidences driven by function”, well that applies to plants as well. Nice dovetail! Flowers are the come hither sexual apparatus of the majority of plants, simply because it _works_ so well. The petals of flowers, in all their color and glory, are a plants way of attracting others, usually insects or birds, and wind, too, to achieve pollination. We may see a resemblance to the human vulva, but really, there isn’t a relation. Flowers exist out in the open to attract, humans generally ain’t displaying their nethers to the public everyday. (mebbe in a better world) But, Function: the colors and shapes of flowers are meant to guide other species, totally different beings, in to transfer pollen to ovary. Really, the plant world is a freakshow, sexually speaking. Or, maybe the way it should be, and actually Is; lots of mutual dependency for food and reproduction, fraught with the beauty of color and scent. Human yonis are, well, so hid away, living in the dark most of the time, usually only to be displayed to a select few, and even then, how many look at a vulva as a flower? That word, vulva, vulgar. The other C-word, worse , and Pussy, well, that’s rather silly. Why aren’t there any English words that describe female parts in a poetic bent. Quite telling. Though we love to compare flowers to yonis, biologically speaking, in terms of display, it’s not accurate. We do get the attraction connection, though, and wish we could be so bold as flowers, and so use, cultivate, and select the best ones to grow and proffer to our beloved. Traditionally, male to female bouquets. Think about that. What a crazy world! ---

Heh. Maybe it’s just my inner male supremacist speaking, but I dislike yonic forms. They’re so static and limiting… they don’t go anywhere. Phallic forms are so much better – they break through barriers and expand to fill space and defy gravity. Yonic forms just wallow in their own circularity. I don’t like flowers, either. ---

This is probably why patriarchal religions have been so outstandingly successful in the last four or five millennia. They break through barriers, create intricate theologies, build magnificent cathedrals, and redeem mankind from the slavery of sin, without the need to bang on about phalli for the most part. (Unless you are into Dionysian phallus-waggling and getting extremely sloshed, which most people relegate to mere recreation rather than a religious rite.) Feminist religions however, especially those bolted together recently to appease dippy New-Age types who aren’t so much looking for something to express religious truth as a way to espouse anything, anything at all, that separates them from the conformist herd that they’re so tired of, just wallow in their own circularity, admiring their own vaginas and expected everyone to worship them for existing. Flowers on the other hand are kinda pretty, although IMHO they’re only overtly sexual objects if you are a bee. 🆒 /stream-of-consciousness witter ---
