Does anybody else say the “dogs and cats living together” line all the time as a joke? I think we use it about once a week. ---

Not as far as I know. But Bill Murray’s delivery of it was so perfect, it’s like it became an instant catch phrase. ---

That line in the OP is directed to the mayor of New York and it leads to one of my favorite bits: _ **Mayor** _: “But what if you are wrong?” _ **Dr. Peter Venkman** _: "If I’m wrong, nothing happens! We go to jail - peacefully, quietly. We’ll enjoy it!.. But if I’m _right_, and we _can_ stop this thing… Lenny… You will have saved the lives of millions of _registered voters_…" ---

Can I just say how impressed I am that you remembered the entire quote, but not the movie it came from? The best I can do is the “dogs and cats” part, and I watched _Ghostbusters_ about seventy times in the course of one month when I was twelve. ---

Where did that come from!’ So I googled it and found a bunch of people posting it but not the source. And when you told me I remembered the scene. I’ve only seen it less than half a dozen times, even though I own it. Too many other DVDs to watch… ---

Another huge Ghostbusters fan checking in. That whole damn movie is so quotable! One of my favorite exchanges is from Ray Stantz to Peter Venkman, which I always quote to my friends in academia: “Personally, I like the University. They gave us money and facilities, we didn’t have to produce anything. You’ve never been out of college. You don’t know what it’s like out there. I’ve worked in the private sector. They expect _results_.” Aykroyd’s delivery of that last line is spot-on perfect. ---

There’s also a line about crossing the beams…somebody goes into a huge scientific explanation of why they can’t do it, and Bill Murray one-lines something about, “Okay, crossing the beams…bad.” And something about the deputy mayor having no penis. ---
