Edit: Missed PG’s edict.
The shooter has been identified as Wess Roley, a 20 year old. No information about motive yet.
Ah. Shows how much attention I pay to the police…
I was in the biz of selling software to police departments at the time that GIS mapping software and also mobile phone spy “situational awareness” systems were the hot new thang in police tech.
I’m oblivious to whatever new magic they’ve gotten since. But I probably would not approve of it.
Somebody who wants to cause as much destruction as possible, I guess.
USA Today reported that he most recently lived in Phoenix and recently spent some time with his grandfather in Oklahoma. He has relatives about an hour away from the shooting site. He grandfather said that he loved firefighters so the whole thing didn’t make sense to him and speculated that he tried to become a firefighter and was rejected.
That’s one thing I speculated privately. But I would have put my money on his being a neo-nazi who targeted firefighters for… reasons.
Gosh, I can’t imagine why he was rejected.
My dad was a FF for 36 years. Less than 1% of applicants end up joining the force.
You may well be correct. So far the only news-adjacent cites online I’ve found for the proposition that this could be some white supremacist/Aryan Nation motivated attack are the NY Post and the Hindustan Times, to wit: On June 28, 2001:
Firefighters burned some of the remaining buildings on the former Aryan Nations compound during training exercises this week.
The 20-acre property is owned by the Carr Foundation, which offered the abandoned buildings to Northern Lakes Fire District officials for training, fire inspector Dean Marcus said.
The foundation bought the compound in April from Victoria and Jason Keenan, who won a $6.2 million judgment against the Aryan Nations and its founder, Richard Butler.
