This is out of the small “Essential” playlist I keep on my nano with my podcasts. It’s probably about 300 songs. 1. The Police - Synchronicity II - One of the songs that I really started to enjoy over the Police’s resurgence this past year. I liked them a lot when I was little because they played bouncy, odd rock stuff, but this is one that I didn’t appreciate until now. 1. Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey - Some of my favorite absurdist lyrics ever. 1. Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai - My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama - Hell of a groove. I defy you to listen to this without rocking out. 1. David Bowie - Young Americans - Just like the sound of this one. I was on a Bowie kick last month and put a bunch of his stuff on the list. 1. Dynamite Hack - Boys in the Hood - I should probably remove this. The novelty’s sort of worn off. 1. Jethro Tull - Teacher - On a Jethro Tull kick this month. I wish it had been “Cross-Eyed Mary.” 1. Neil Young - Down By The River - The lyrics are so opaque that they’re fascinating. I love murder ballads. 1. Guns ‘n’ Roses - I Used To Love Her - Again, I love murder ballads. 1. Wu Tang Clan - Gravel Pit - And THERE’S the eclectic nature of my list shining through. 1. Vampire Weekend - A-Punk - And the less eclectic, easily-influenced hipster nature. ---
