1. Joan Baez - “Diamonds And Rust”: Not a huge Joan Baez fan, but I was addicted to this song about six months ago. The “a couple of light years ago” line always bothers me, though.
2. I Am Kloot - “Not A Reasonable Man”: I Am Kloot have some really great songs (check out “To You”). I’m not too sure about this one though. I haven’t listened to the _I Am Kloot_ album in its entirety for a long time, and I don’t remember this track particularly.
3. Throwing Muses - “Catch”: One of Kristin Hersh’s first songs, recorded in the mid-to-late '90s for the _In A Doghouse_ comp. It’s OK, nothing great but sort of catchy in a nursery rhyme way.
4. Sparks - “Girl From Germany”: Much like I Am Kloot, I know a lot of great songs by Sparks, know I’ve heard this one several times but can’t really place it.
5. Gang Of Four - “Outside The Trains Don’t Run On Time”: This is the version that was a bonus track on _Entertainment!_, one of my top 3 albums ever if not my favorite. It’s a pretty good song, more fitting on the pretty good _Solid Gold_ album, but not near the caliber of _Entertainment!_.

1. Track 3 - Going Postal, Disk 6 - Terry Pratchett
2. Music for Strings, Percussion & Celesta - III. adagio - Bela Bartok
3. Come Fly With Me - Michael Buble
4. I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness
5. Walking Out of Stride - Badly Drawn Boy

I don’t have my audio books on a separate playlist right now so when I shuffle they get mixed in, thus #1.

Take two:

_Whistling in the Dark_ -They Might Be Giants
_Me In Honey_ -REM
_Endlich Loge! Eiltes Du so_ -Rheingold
_Mrs. Robinson_ -Simon and Garfunkel
_Llama de Amor Viva_ by Carlos Surinach, performed by St. Louis Chamber Chorus

Only slightly less geeky.

If you’re using iTunes, there’s a “Skip when shuffling” option that you can check. Presumably, iPods will then skip those “songs” too.
Ah, here we go. I totally forgot about that Bjork song, and shall get it now. Aqualung has been a guilty pleasure for years and I always forget to download it. Neat.

So, I will have another go…obviously I will skip anything that popped up last time.

1. **Come on Eileen- (Dexy’s Midnight Runners)** -Argh. Look it’s a good song, dammit. You know it is…Dammit.

2. **Sunshine Superman- (Donovan)** -eh. It’s no _Epistle to Dippy_, but it’ll do. Actually I don’t know why I still have this on here. I much prefer Husker Du’s version (don’t feel like finding umlauts. Sorry.)

3. **Respectable Street- (XTC)**- Love this song, and the album it’s on. Great silly video.

4. **I Don’t Like Mondays- (Boomtown Rats)**- I mainly like this song for the piano part. Is it still banned from being played on the radio?

5. **Johnny Thunder- (Kinks)**- Ah, one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums. You know, this was gonna be my username when I first signed up…decided against it because everyone would obviously think that I was a guy.

Hmmm. A slight bit of iffyness, but again nothing too mortifying. I think I kind of \*want \* something embarrassing to play.

Oh, and I do have females on this thing…dunno why they aren’t coming up.
There are good female names from “The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society”- why not, say, Wicked Annabella?

Out of about 5500

1. Song Beneath a Song - Maria Taylor
-I like this song quite a bit and I completely forgot I had it on my iPod

2. Reunion of Friends - John Williams (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Soundtrack)
-Maybe my favorite track of the score.

3. Closer - Joshua Radin
-I quite like this one as well, I’m having pretty good luck thus far.

4. Empty - The Cranberries
-Not my favorite song, but quite tolerable.

5. Brokeback Mountain 3 - Gustavo Santaolalla

- Not my favorite soundtrack but it isn’t bad though.

I have a ton of original scores so I was bound to have a few of those. The list is fairly representative actually (except for the lack of classical music and U2)

I listen to fairly uncommon songs and artists.

1. Vater Unser by E Nomine on the album Das Beste Aus Gottes Beitrag Und Teufels Werk - This is kinda funny, since I put this album on just tonight

2. …of Silence by Sonata Arctica on the album Silence

3. Beloved by VNV Nation on the album Future Perfekt

4. Chrome by VNV Nation on the album Matter + Form

5. PTF 2012 by VNV Nation on the album Praise The Fallen

Of all the artists I have, VNV Nation probably does have the most songs, but not 3/5 of them. Oh well.

Of the 2044 songs (9.34 GB) I have on my hard drive, here are the first five randomly selected songs that came up on my Winamp program on Sunday, July 29, 2007 beginning at appoximately 8:45 PDT:

(1) Elton John – _Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding_
(2) The Beatles – _Getting Better_
(3) Elvis Costello – _Two Little Hitlers_
(4) Traffic - _Medicated Goo_
(5) Ramones – _Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue_

Metallica - Blackened
Ambeon - Sick Ceremony
Ill Nino - This Is War
Children Of Bodom - Silent Scream
H.I.M. - Your Sweet Six Six Six
That came out a lot more metal than I tend to be.

You know, I thought about that as well (that is also a great song…well, every song on that album is), but _Johnny Thunder_ was the first Kinks song that I really, really loved. I guess I could’ve gone with Sweet Helena, too.

I wonder what the limit is on name changes.

_Change Your Mind_ by Sister Hazel (one of my favorite inspirational songs)

_Back2Good_ Matchbox 20…for when I’m feeling that relationships suck

_The Zoo_ by The Scorpions…a little 80’s pop metal 🙂

_Stop Draggin My Heart Around_ by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty…embarrassing, yes, but this was a hit when I was dating a guy whom I felt was draggin’ my heart around.

_Beautiful Girls_ by Van Halen…I love old Van Halen!

Kinks usernames are awesome! 😉

My first five:

1. **"Gallon of Gas Blues/You’re Looking Fine (Live)" by Dave Davies**. Wow. I totally did not plan that!

2. **"It’s Gettin’ Better (Man!!)" by Oasis**. Great song from an unjustly maligned album, _Be Here Now_. Love the double exclamation points.

3. **"Know Your Rights (Live)" by the Clash**. Not my favorite Clash tune, but the live version on _From Here to Eternity_ is pretty good.

4. **"Halo" by Foo Fighters**. _One by One_ is definitely their best album, IMHO.

5. **"You’re Such a Wire" by Frank Black and the Catholics**. Nice laid-back song from one of my musical heroes, Frank Black (aka Black Francis). Everything he’s done is great.

This was an interesting experiment. Five songs can’t really represent the depth of a collection of 3,950 (duh), but it managed to pop up all really old stuff. Here’s the list - unedited as requested.

[ul]
[li]_Roxanne_ by the Police[/li][li]_Spin, Spin, Spin_ by Jim Croce (from his 50th anniversary CD)[/li][li]_The Third Door–Pride_ by Mannheim Steamroller (from Fresh Aire II)[/li][li]_Baba O’Riley_ by the Who (this may be heresy, but I think I like Blue Man Group’s version better)[/li][li]_Welcome to the Machine_ by Pink Floyd[/li][/ul]

**Autumn Almanac** , you were one of my favorite posters as soon as I saw your name. You obviously have good taste (oh wait…is that an Oasis song? Nevermind. 😉 )
1. **“Gallon of Gas Blues/You’re Looking Fine (Live)” by Dave Davies**. Wow. I totally did not plan that!
Since I started this thread in part to get ideas, this isn’t really a hijack. The only solo Dave songs I know are the handfull on _Something Else…_, all of which I really like. Is the rest of his stuff consistently good? I recently saw a compilation of some sort, but I didn’t know if it was worth taking the chance.

**"1000 Shards" by Isis** , off In the Absence of Truth. Ambient, atmospheric metal, with droning vocals. Good stuff.

**"Drive" by Incubus** , off Make Yourself. A nice little acoustic song that I like to play when I’m wondering about my life and what I’m doing (or not doing) in it.

**"You Are My Face" by Wilco** , off Sky Blue Sky. Wilco goes back to their alt-country roots on this offering from their latest album, with a quiet start; this soon seques into a blues-tinged, loping melody. A pleasure to listen to.

**"So I Quit" by Filter** , off Amalgamut. Oh-so distinctive lead in, with the lead singer Robert Patrick drawing out the word “Motherfucker!” in a scream. Kickass tempo, blazing alt-metal music.

**"Poison Years" by Bob Mould** , off Workbook (his first solo album after Hüsker Dü). One of my favorite songs on this album (along with the Husker-esque “Whichever Way the Wind Blows”), with mournful, contemplative lyrics and a wonderful wailing chorus that’s great to sing along with.

Another crack at it from me:

1. **Bruce Springsteen** - I Ain’t Got No Home: From the Folkways CD.

2. **Dizz Knee Land** - Dada: Nothing but the best in dodging infringement suits!

3. **Sunblock** - Emmet Swimming: A great vacation song that no one’s ever heard of.

4. **Grey Goose** - Sweet Honey in the Rock: Another Folkways item. This time a Leadbelly song.

5. **Begin the Beguine** - Sammy Davis, Jr: Hey, who doesn’t like Sammy?

I don’t have any such device, but if I did it would have:

1. What You 'Gonna Do With A Cowboy- Chris LeDeux
2. Enter Sandman- Metallica
3. Roll The Stone Away- Accapella Vocal Band
4. Walls of Jericho- Accapella
5. A Boy Named Sue- Johnny Cash
