I was five years old; at a wedding reception in Cyprus, a momentary lapse of attention from my parents allowed me to cruise around the place and empty the glasses of people who were up dancing. I don’t know how much I drank (probably not very much) but I fell over and hit my head so I was taken to hospital with an enormous lump on my head. Nowadays I don’t tend to drink much at all. ---

Just beer, at a bachelor party. I threw up in the huge can of chips and then passed out on the sofa. I awoke at home not knowing who got me there. It spooked me bad and I never got drunk again. ---

Vodka. I drink beer now mostly, but the taste of vodka always brings back fond memories. On a related note, I turn 21 this month. Fancy that. ---

Let’s see…the very first time I went out drinking, I had two shots of sambuca, 16 oz. of Coors Light, a White Russian, and something that involved a large amount of whiskey. All these were in the space of 45 minutes. It was two days before I felt right again. ---

ooooyyyyyy, it hurts just thinking about it. My first interlude with alcohol involved red wine. I have never been so screwed (on red wine, that is) since. yuck,yuck,yuck! ---

When I was fifteen years old,my older sister took me to a party. I drank endless beers and then decided to switch to Scotch. Not a good idea. I ended up puking on the driveway. My tolerance is very high but I still can’t drink Scotch to this day. ---

Bottle of Blue Label Smirnoff, bought in Duty Free on a ferry back from a school trip to Amsterdam. I couldn’t have consumed more than a third of it, if that, but it gave me (a) the guts the go to my first disco, (b) the worst hangover anyone has ever had, and © a love affair with the drug which took me seven years to properly shake. I was in trouble there for a while. ---

10th grade, eight cans of Coors, on a boat with a buddy of mine and a couple of girls. I puked off the dock, one of the girls went home and puked on her bed, then got in trouble and blamed it on me. Her mom called my parents, my dad screamed at me, my mom cried, I got put on restriction. Good times, good times… ---

When I was 12, my dad had a birthday party. My mom had been making Tequila Sunrises all night for my dad and his friends. I watched and learned and eventually was able to sneak one away from her. After that, I decided I could probably make one myself. Not the best idea (I used waaaaaay too much tequila) but I got trashed. ---

I was 15. My best friend had a bottle of Seagram’s 7. We drank 7&7 till we ran out of 7UP, then went to straight Seagram’s shots. I woke up in a bed full of vomit (my own), and I was sick for 2 days. To this day, over 20 years later, I can not drink brown liquor of any kind. ---

The first time I drank socially we played quarters. I was on a roll but luck ran out and then everyone paid me back in spades. It was about a decade before I touched beer again. Shot glasses full of beer still bring back bad memories. ---

I tend to not drink to get drunk but just a nice pleasant little buzz, the first time I did get drunk it took 11 beers in a just a few hours at my uncle’s birthday party… I make a complete and utter fool of myself, my cousins have DDR, do you know how difficult it is to keep your balance while playing that game? Peach schnapps, Sprite, and vodka, riding in the back of a friend’s old Cadillac, the summer after we graduated from high school. (I feel compelled to add that the driver wasn’t drinking, so we were only breaking two laws instead of three.) I didn’t get sick at all. My first hangover was after we snuck a bottle of Jack Daniels into a movie theater a few weeks later. (Boy, this makes me sound like a really dissipated youth! I was in the 8th grade. My sister and her friends (Who were not old enough to be legally drinking themselves.) decided it would be fun to “get little James drunk”. (I share the same name as my father.) I don’t remember what all they gave me, but they were astonished that I kept drinking without feeling any effects. “WOW! He’s not drunk yet! Here drink this!” Meanwhile I am thinking “What am I supposed to be feeling?” And then it hit me. All at once I started laughing uproariously. I ran around the house singing and dancing and generally acting like a really lit 8th grader would be expected to act. Then I realized who I was behaving concentrated… tried to meditate and calmed down, telling myself “I will not act like an idiot.” It worked…for about half an hour. I went through four or five cycles of laughing and acting like an idiot and then regaining some semblance of control before eventually going to sleep. [sub]God I miss my sister. [/sub] :\*( ---

Rum and Coke, a Klansman (Southern Comfort with cream 🙂 - ironically, it was a teacher at school who invented the drink and told us about it) and another Rum and Coke - on a trip with some other kids from my high school. I was 16, and only got a fairly mild buzz - being Irish has its advantages. ---

The first time I was ever drunk, or indeed had more than a sip of an alcoholic beverage was during my senior year of high school, when I, uh… well, that is to say… _sigh_…I got lit up on Zima. I then went on to punch my knuckles bloody on my friend Bill’s punching bag (it was his house we were at). Thought nothing of it at the time, but looking back, I can’t help but wonder about beating my fists raw the first time I artificially lower my inhibitions. I feel compelled to mention that as I submit this, I’m taking a wee sip of Glenlivet. So, y’know, you all will still be my friends, right? Even after I told you about the Zima? Guys?
