First movie you rented

When I was about 4 (give or take), my dad got us Star Wars on a projector. I’m not sure whether we actually rented it or he got it through a friend but that is the first movie I remember seeing in my house that wasn’t on tv.

I had used my mom’s video club membership (we had to pay to be a member back then) several times. But then I found a place that took a security of a credit card and only a $10.00 fee. (Mom paid about a hundred…)

My girlfriend, my roommates gf, and I rented PeeWee Herman’s Big Adventure and we watched it when my roomie got home from work.

Man, I miss that movie. Or was it the hot tub sex later? btw, I have since learned that swimming pool, hut tub, whatever sex just isn’t as great as all those pornos make it out to be. Give me a bed, couch, front lawn, or soft carpet any time. Guess what other kind of movie we saw that night?

The Outsiders and Twilight Zone: The Movie . It was 1983, my 11th birthday/slumber party, and my parents rented a player. My girlfriends and I mooned over Ponyboy through a couple of showings that night!

The first movie we ever rented was ** The Sound of Music **. It was on vhs too. My sisters and I would pretend to sing like the vontrap family and do the coo coo song and dance. Then we moved onto Marry Poppins and Apple dumpling gang.

You know. … I don’t think I’ve ever rented a movie. At least not in the past 10 years when it was an option for me.

I did order “The Sixth Sense” on V.O.D. (Video on Demand)

I think the first movie we ever rented was F/X.

1981, Star Wars and Airplane on a rented Quasar with dials. Hmm, never considered it but our TV happened to be a Quasar too (with an ultrasonic remote, a triangle <ding> could set it off)

REDNECK ZOMBIES, but only because a friend of mine was in it.

Gone with the Wind

Revenge of the Nerds

To Sir, With love

First movie ever rented, also the first movie ever purchased.

my most treasured gift was the video A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (I think we actually bought RE-ANIMATOR later, maybe that Christmas)- we rented a VCR. and Dad rented two other videos- ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES and ILSA- SHE-WOLF OF THE SS.

I hate to admit this but at least it wasn’t my idea, but the first movie my family got was Annie. I was probably 7-8 then.

There used to be a video theatre of sorts where I used to live (OKC). The place had several rooms with couches and and big screen tvs. You could pick a movie and watch it with friends. I watched two films there and I’m not sure which was first.
Used Cars and The History of the World Part 1.

Before we owned a VCR, I decided to rent one and several movies, so me and some of my friends could sit around all Saturday watching movies. The titles included The Road Warrior, Firefox, Monty Python’s Meaning of Life and two others I can’t remember. This would have been in the fall of 1984.

I officially nominate FriarTed Sr. as the coolest dad ever.

My brother and I watched Blade Runner at a friend’s house. Not only was it the first movie on tape I had seen, it was also the first rated R movie any of us had seen. While I thought (and still think) that it was/is a great movie, we must have watched the nudity parts 100 times.

Shortly after that, we went to dinner at some friends of my parents. They owned a copy of Star Wars. I remember being totally jealous and thinking that if I owned a copy of Star Wars, I would watch it everyday.

On the same day in the late 80s I rented two movies: “The Shining” and “Ruthless People”. I also rented the VCR.
