First MTV Video

The first video I saw was Physical by ONJ. It was in Oct of 1891 on the Tom Snyder show. She was the first artist to have a prime time special in '82 with only music video. There are very few good ones, the only decent one I can think of off hand is Take On Me by A-ha.

I don’t remember what the first video I saw was, but the first one I saw on MTV was “Brass in the Pocket” by the Pretenders.

These days I only watch MTV for the animated shows.

Something by Tim Curry! Don’t know what, just remember being very surprised. Anyone know what it was?

The first I saw was actually “Video killed the Radio star” on its original airing. I was there from the beginning, many of the ones mentioned here do haveso serious memories attached though. I think I saw Ah-Ha’s “Take on me” a million times, I really loved that song/video. “Dancing in the Streets” was an early one for me, as was Princes first handful of videos mainly “Little Red Corvette”.

In late 1979 Curry had a very minor hit record with “I Do the Rock”, which peaked at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune was very similar to Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves in London”. The song is on one of my “New Wave Hits of the 80s” disks, and I also remember WHFS playing it when it was first released.

I think it was Don’t Pay the Ferryman by Chris De Burgh

My first was The Flirts “Don’t Put Another Dime In The Jukebox”.

Now I’m gonna have it stuck in my head all day…

I can honestly say that the first video I saw was the video ChiefScott spoke of, “Video Killed The Radio Star” by the Buggles many, many, MANY moons ago.

“Quoth the Raven, ‘Nevermore.’”
E A Poe

it was in the 80’s.It was by Syevie Nicks, but I have no idea what, nor do I care, they all sounded the same to me.

BINGO! Now that you tell me what it was, i remember it clearly… thank you!

I don’t know what the first video was…I have clear memories of Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film” as well as the rest of their hits. I also remember “Turning Japanese” by the Vapors.

Amazin’ by Aerosmith

Oh my, such memories,

The first video I ever saw was on HBO's videojukebox in 1982, Sheena Easton's

Morning Train. My reaction was: this is cool a little musical movie for current hit songs. Since 1982 when we got our first VCR (a Quasar with big tuning knobs for $900.00 and tapes were $25.00 a piece) we have been recording and saving videos from the beginning. After 17 years the tapes are still viewable, On MTV tape #1 we
have: Kim Wilde’s “kids in america” Joe Jackson’s “steppin out” Metro’s "berlin, Falco’s “der komissar” Chris D’s “don’t pay the ferryman” ect… Do these ring any bells?

The first one I remember is Stray Cats, “Rock This Town.”

“Once in a Lifetime” and “I Ran” (Flock of Seagulls. Local PBS Station had a great video show starting in about 1980. We got cable the summer of 1983, and I was turned into a couch potato on the first day.
