There is just something about the name Samantha that grinds my gears. I hate it. I also dislike: Maxine Jade Charlie Jayden Kai Joan Fleur Margaret Brian Gemma Peter and many, many more but I’m starting to feel annoyed so I’ll leave it there. ---

I’m not terribly fond of the name Emily, which has been popular for a number of years and I draw the line at Emma. I remember when Rachel and Ross on \*Friends \*were going to have a baby and were discussing names. Ross proposed “Ruth”, to which Rachel responded something like “I’m sorry; are we having an 80 year old woman?”. Yet she found the name Emma acceptable(?):smack: Ross turned down one of her suggestions: Sandrine. He said it sounds like industrial cleaner; I think it’s quite nice. Maude just isn’t a pretty sound, Bea Arthur or not. On the other hand Gloria is very pretty yet most people think of it as an old ladies name. Sharon is quite pretty; Sheryl, not so much. Ditto Katherine as opposed to Kathleen. As I always say in these threads, apologies to anyone I may have offended. My own name IRL is quite bimboish and is even spelled with an “i” at the end, if that makes you feel any better :o ---

When my only child was born back in 1977, my then wife and I did not know the sex of the baby. We had decided on Wesley in it was a boy, Desiree if it was a girl. He was a he and being the first male for his generation, ended up named after my grandfather, Robert. Years later met a gal about my son’s age, her name was Desiree. I was so glad my kid did not end up with that name, it seemed so dated at that time. ---

The four names my parents had to choose from if they were to name me after either of my grandmothers were: Beatrice, Geneva, Geraldine, or Gertrude. Thank you mom & dad for giving me a brand new name. ---
