Just my personal opinion here, but I do not think much of Doris Day as an actress or a singer. She was a lightweight that was only marginally suitable in the puff pieces she was in.
Robin Weigert, on the other hand, can disappear into a role and make you believe her.
I think we see them pretty much the same way. Robin Weigert has blown my mind on several occasions by NOT looking like Calamity Jane.
I surely do miss Deadwood!
I remember Doris Day mostly from the mid-50s and at least one good Hitchcock thing.
I saw her as the lawyer in Sons of Anarchy. It took two or three episodes to realize that she was Calamity Jane.
Doris day is, and always was, just Doris Day. In every movie she was in she sang Que Sera, Sera.
Not a tad of an argument here – either one. 
I’m still not seeing Ann Margret in the list. She may not win, but the results aren’t valid if she’s not included.
