I want a version from the geese’s perspective. Here we have flock of geese just flying as evolution has intended when, suddenly, these featherless motherfuckers with their screaming death machines crash into them killing dozens. Hey assholes, stay on the ground where you belong, dammit! ---

The will-they/won’t-they sexual tension with the flight attendant, culminating in a heated exchange over the baggage carousel? Geez, I could turn this into a trilogy! ---

NatGeo made a 2-hour program out of it. Very interesting, and lots of things discussed that I hadn’t thought of; the thing that comes to mind first of all is that many of the people were puking their guts out, and one of the things that was done to most of the people upon arrival at the hospital was administration of charcoal, because they had swallowed water polluted with jet fuel on top of normal NYC detritus. A TV movie starring Charlton Heston was made about the Sioux City plane crash in 1989; I had heard it wasn’t very good and I was right. They used footage from the actual crash; the crash sequences were good but the rest of it was meh. It was mostly about how the town had recently done a disaster drill and how that likely decreased the casualty count. Can they make Tom Hanks look like Sully? I guess he is quite versatile. I did read Sully’s autobiography and I thought it was good. ---

I’ve read his book, and Sullenberger’s life is pretty interesting. He learned to fly as a teenager and flew F-4s in the Air Force before going to the airlines. His whole life could be viewed as experience leading up to the big moment when the geese hit. I don’t know the details of the investigation and how it might have focused on his actions in a critical way. But I do know this as a commercial pilot myself - If I were to ditch or otherwise destroy an aircraft in a similar manner, even saving everyone aboard, I’d still have a hell of a lot to answer for. And I doubt very much I’d sleep soundly for quite some time because those investigations last a long while. As I recall from his book, Sullenberger had some PTSD symptoms for weeks after the incident. All this being said, I hope the movie doesn’t suck. ---

Sure, but the trailer makes it sound like the investigators are accusing him of screwing up before all the evidence is even in - that the 2nd engine was still functional (it wasn’t in real life), and that simulators showed he could have made it back to the airport - in the real simulator tests 8 of 15 pilots knowing what was about to happen and not under actual stress made it back to the airport safely, the other 7 crashed. I know Hollywood has to add material to make movies more dramatic, but making shit up that’s the exact opposite of what happened just sucks. ---

Well again, not knowing the details of what actually took place, all of that sounds plausible. Even when minor things go awry, pilots get called on the carpet (by their chief pilot if they’re lucky, the FAA / NTSB if they’re not) and told. “You should have done XYZ, it says right here on page 20,406, paragraph 4, subsection 12-C. It’s perfectly clear!” ---

Lots of stuff from people who were on the plane. Also some remarkable photos and video. One freaky one is pictures a guy took from his 26th floor apartment beside the river, as the plane was gliding down. And I think Hanks is a splendid actor, one of the best, but I do agree that maybe they should have tried to put someone else in ths movie. ---

Tom Hanks is turning into the transportation disaster go-to guy: Apollo 13, Sully, Castaway and Captain Whatshisname. And speaking of which, my husband does the same job, for the same company, in the same area as that last movie, and he would not watch it. His colleagues warned him it was a load of nonsense. ---
