# Five days in Amsterdam in the spring...

Forget about Heineken (it’s alright, but not excellent by any means). You REALLY want to go to [brouwerij 't IJ](http://www.brouwerijhetij.nl/index.html) for the best beer in Amsterdam, straight from the brewery - note the opening hours.

Edit: i see RetroVertigo already mentioned it. Still worth mentioning again, though 😃

This is true, but who eats Dutch food in Amsterdam? Shoarma, fritten, and Indonesian rijstafel!  
Brouwerij Het Ij is good, and there are also a couple of excellent pubs. A place on the Kolksteeg (I think) near the station called de Wilde Man has a very high end selection (Belgian stuff and Dutch micro-style). My favorite pub was a place called Onder de Ooievaar on the corner of Prinsengr. and. . .Utrechtsestr. I think. De Baffende Vis was also pleasant- somewhere in the Jordaan I think, if it’s still open.  
Chocolata went out of business? Aw.

Oh, and if you get a hankering for Mexican you’re out of luck, except if a place called Rose’s Cantina (I think) is still open. Kerkstraat?
