> Meh, up here in Maine, we have, on average, 4-7 feet of snow, lower on the flats, but higher due to drifting, and as far as snowdrifts from plows? 7 feet is _small_

> Harrumph

HA! I _knew_ someone would jump in with that snow-upmanship. 😉 You know what I say to that?

There’s a reason why I didn’t move somewhere where 4-7 feet of snow is “meh”, and that’s because _I do not want 4-7 feet of snow all at once_. Among other considerations when buying a house, living in an area that doesn’t typically get 4-7 feet of snow all at once was a big one, yet here we are. Living in an area where it wouldn’t take 2-3 hours to get to or from my job in Boston was another one, yet here we are with the most recent statistics I read showing that there are **42** functioning commuter rail engines to serve the entire commonwealth of Massachusetts right now. The other night I got home from work at 9:40 p.m., and I was lucky. One guy I talked to at South Station had no way to get home.

And this is because 4-7 feet of snow is not “meh” to us. (Although we need to beef up our infrastructure should it become so). I don’t want to live in Maine or Vermont or Buffalo, because I don’t want Maine or Vermont or Buffalo snow totals.

> Hm. I Am Not A Parent, so I am musing on what’s worse - being cooped up with toddlers or teens?

Having had both toddlers and 'tweens, I have to say: yes.

> Yes but are you talking over the course of a whole winter or 2.5 weeks?

Over a whole winter. There’s no place in New England, even Maine, where this much snow is normal in 2.5 weeks.

> Oh my gawd it has been insane. We have a manual treadmill (the one that isn’t electric, just powered by your own movement) and the other day I put my three year old on it and used one foot to move the belt so she could _friggen run around for a bit and stop her from being a jerk._ She has been stuck inside for so long she is losing her mind and it makes her super cranky. Today she looked out the window at the 9 feet of snow (we are just outside of Boston) and said, “Mama, can we go on a campout? Or a picnic? Or just something outside, pweese?” Poor kid.☹

Beach bucket and shovel and let her make her own human habitrail in the snow banks?

Back in the day, I was about 7 and my brother 9 when my mom would let he and I tunnel in the 3 story tall piles of snow [and sled off the roof of the spot you got to by opening up the side window in the attics]. We made hugely elaborate tunnels, and little caves.

I was going to say something like that, tie a rope round the kit, give them a shovel and let em start tunneling.

Mind you, I’ve only ever seen snow on TV and movies so I wouldn’t really know.

That stuff looks cold.
