Bicycle pump isn’t “basic,” and is an extension the lever. The third is the wheel.
Is your head currently in the sand?

Why I chose Native American as an example of a teaching subject has nothing to do with Black History month that lasts the whole year except it is a social agenda that replaces actual history, all year long, every day, every subject, by every teacher who does not want to be “phased out”. It is because of the enormity of the subject. Now, how many of you Government teachers can get this post translated into Spanish tomorrow in your classroom? Now, how many of you can get this translated into Cherokee, Apache, Crow, Seminole, Blackfoot, etc. Now, how many of you teachers care why? Why is Spanish in every classroom and school in America and the Native American Indian languages are considered dead languages? Do the Mexicans living here and speaking Spanish, look Spanish? Nope, they are what is left of the Native Indians converted by KILLERS. If you want to enlighten young minds, you will not gloss over an earlier holocaust and teach how bad the Germans were. You will not repent your GUILT over Native Indian HOLOCAUST by erasing it and concentrating on “Look how we are making things even to the Blacks!”. Until teachers address our history honestly, instead of quacking out the latest liberally conceived social agenda textbook, we are doomed to be the Police state the cold war was all about. Most teacher are dumb as hell, even on their professed subject. We need educators, not government propaganda machines.
A machine is something that provides an advantage in power or speed. There is no lever in a bicycle pump, just pistons. It is hydraulic/pneumatic action of piston size differential that provides the advantage. There does not have to be a lever in a hydraulic system as the only things that move are the 2 pistons. Same size, no advantage. Moving parts, no lever, no inclined plane qualifying it as an irreducible machine of only 3 in existence. Now I will bet you will rely on your education to spout out the axle, wheel, screw, and anything else but they are all complications of the inclined plane and lever. I am a tool/machine designer and call BUNK on our stupid education system that teaches at 66 2/3 speed. If you have taught science or whatnot that did put up the chart with the “six” basic machines and left off the ignored bicycle pump, you might need remedial information that you have just received. Now think a while and then look it up in a physics book printed before 1970. No need to thank me, it was my pleasure, but it, and the hidden/banned topic of Native American Holocaust, scream the failure of our education propaganda machine. Now if you can read this, go thank a Toolmaker.
Think of a wheel as a lever with a second lever attached at the fulcrum center, now u have a double lever, or cross, now add 2 more levers making 8, now add more until the circumference is full, a wheel, or more accurately, a continuous lever with the center as a fulcrum- Oh, the screw you say, well, that would be an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder, any other machine you can name except the piston pump is simply a lever or inclined plane complicated up the chain- Now as you can see, as an educated person, you have been misinformed by an ignorant system and you have accepted it as fact because they said so. When I opened your mind to another possibility, you immediately rejected it as not possible, hence, propaganda controlled mind. Why did you not research it for yourself and spare yourself of error. It is not your fault, the topic is, what is wrong with our education system. I chose 2 unchallengeable examples, yet it was challenged. Why?
No, they shouldn’t. They should to the RIGHT thing. If there is a teacher union official who looks at this case and draws the conclusion, “Yup, he’s a pedophile, put him back in a class and he’ll go after another kid, but he paid his dues, so let’s fight for him,” that official is a worthless human being.
I guess this is a frustration for me, because I’ve stood up to my bosses when I felt they weren’t doing the right thing by customers, vendors or employees, no union to back me up, just my ass in the sling. But in the end, I’ve always tried to do the right thing. Sometimes I kick ass, and sometimes I got my ass kicked, but I held my head up high.
Frankly, I can’t see anyone holding his head up high because he got an obvious pedophile 14 years worth of pay for no work.
.
Yeah, there is something terribly wrong. These adminstrators answer to politicians who are too busy sucking at the teet of these unions.
.
Demonizing implies that you are saying something that isn’t true or don’t have a valid complaint.
I was wondering why you left the Church.
No, it seems your head it not in sand but lodge firmly up somewhere else entirely.
It’s not a “bicycle pump” it’s pneumatics, which are anything but “basic.” And while the concept is simple, the application is not.
And as a mechanical engineer, with a mechanical engineering degree, I spent plenty of time working on the tolerance that allow for hydraulics/pneumatics to work. If you bothered with the math involved you’d realize the mechanical advantage from hydraulics are an extension of the law of levers, applied through pressure vs area. The whole point of being irreducible is that you can start from scratch. As a toolmaker you should understand tolerances, and hydraulics won’t work without them.
Developing the piston with a smooth enough bore, and components that can withstand pressure was hell and a relatively recent phenomenon. Look at the history of pneumatics and steam power. Consider the challenges of early cannons and guns.
As they say, it doesn’t take much for an internal combustion engine to soon become an external combustion engine. Stick to the genocide stuff, you’ll get more traction, no one cares about shop class any more than they care about home economics.
Wanna go through the propaganda concerning basic electrical circuits next?
ETA Just noticed your join date, welcome to the internet!
Welcome, crewface. I am from Tennessee, home of Sequoyah, a very, very good teacher.
What’s wrong with that picture is that there was an admission of criminal sexual abuse yet no criminal charges were brought.
Edit:
Point being, he’d have struggled to hold down that job if he was in prison, which is where he should be if what he “admitted to” was true.
But obviously that’s the union’s fault.
I’ve known lots of teachers who were busted. One was smoking pot with his students. Another was supposedly sexually harassing students. He refused to admit it, but said that he would go quietly if no charges were placed. Another was intimate with one of her male students – despite the religious signs she defiantly put up in her classroom. Another – one of the best teachers I know – was supposedly acting inappropriately with his students. (I never did understand this one.) Another was fired for doing a laying on of hands for healing with her special ed. students and freaking some of them out. (She was and is mentally ill in my opinion) You can be fired for insubordination or failure to be at your post of duty. I knew another teacher who was fired because she would lock her students out of the classroom. She was assigned only seven or eight each period. Having tenure means that you can’t be fired on a whim by the school administrator or someone you have challenged with a grievance.
Nor can they fire you if you have taught so long that you have your Master’s Degree plus 40 hours. That would normally mean that you were drawing one of the highest salaries. I knew a very good English teacher in this position. She was a single woman who had built her life around the school and its students and activities. But there were cutbacks in the budget. The administrators began to ride her case, hoping that she would retire. She got very depressed about it. She was so depressed that she didn’t bother to check out the lump in her breast. She died before graduation that year. Down the hall the year before, another English teacher had put a gun to her head. But I wasn’t at the school by then and only heard this second hand. I had received disability for depression and retired early. I loved teaching and loved my students, but I couldn’t concentrate anymore. The largest of these schools had 1100 students.
I have a problem with people losing their job when they have not been proven to do anything wrong. Maybe this is a cultural thing, me being European and having lived for over a decade in an apparent Socialist hellhole. Over here, generally speaking, you can’t get fired over rumours, accusations or just because your boss is feeling grumpy. And many of us prefer it that way.
But then again, by all accounts children in the schools here on average outperform those in the US, so you really have to ask who is doing it right. Example, the UN’s Education Index:
And here we have heavily unionised teaching, kids not even starting school until the age of seven and those same short days and long holidays.
Sorry, you’re wrong there. The Union’s job is to support their members whether they like them or not.
Much like a lawyer (let’s say, for sake of argument, a public lawyer that is assigned to a case) defends his client no matter what. He doesn’t go into the court and say “my man here is guilty, m’lud. Lock him up and throw away the key!”
Of course there is that murky area where the government, using your tax dollars, buys products from corporations. You don’t have much of a direct say there either and, frankly, both sides of the US houses will often buy from the same place.
So even though your reasoning doesn’t work in this very common scenario, I’m guessing you still support corporations influencing politics with money. Am I right?
Actually, funny you should ask that.
I left the Catholic Church after my mother’s funeral. After one of the nasty old nuns who used to torment me in childhood with a big wooden ruler said.
“Well, God must have had a good reason for this.”
The frustrated old lesbian was lucky I didn’t punch her out. Because I really wanted to.
But, yeah, the Church’s policy on pedophile priests was a big contribution to my contempt for it. We all knew those guys were a little funny and you never wanted to be alone in a room with one, so I’m always a bit surprised when the Chruch claims they had NO IDEA they had pedophile priests. Really?
I actually think the church’s policies create them. For instance, back in the day, when you knew a kid was a “little funny”, singing show-tunes and stuff, if you were Catholic you sent him off to a seminary prep school.
Which means you took him out of his sexual development right after puberty.
So instead of growing up to be an interior decorator, he grew up in this sexless environment where he was still sexually locked into 15 years old. And big surprise how that turned out.
It’s the criminal justice system’s fault that he’s not in jail.
It’s the union’s fault he is still mooching off the taxpayers of New York City.
No, not really. I think there is too much money in politics.
I’ll go one better. I think that the fact that most of the media is controlled by five or six big corporations (ViaCom, Comcast, Disney, Time-Warner,NewsCorp) is a real problem.
But the notion that a union can control the politicians that should be holding them to a standard, and as a result, they can get away with essentially not doing their job and block ANY sort of reform, is unacceptable.
I think there are a lot of criminal defense lawyers who pretty much sell their clients down the river or tell them, “Hey, they got you dead to rights, might as well cop a plea.”
A union should stick up for the whole. It does the whole no good to support the pedophiles or the incompetants.
I once lost a job because they wanted to create a position for an idiot relative of a national manager… so, yeah, sometimes that’s how it goes. That’s life.
Frankly, looking at what is going on in Greece, I’m not sure I want to emulate the European system.
I have no problem with unions that defend employees when they should be defended. I have a big problem where incompetence is not only tolerated by vigorously advocated.
As I understand the European system, though, you guys have something close to school choice. At they do in Germany, where the Lutheran and Catholic Churches are still involved in education, and the government pays for it. In short, if parents aren’t happy with a school, they have a choice to go to a different one.
Let me repeat my question to you: how should the union phrase their policy regarding defending members against termination? Keep in mind that if they don’t follow this policy, they’ll be successfully sued by the member who has been paying their dues for years under the expectation that they’ll have a union rep advocating on their behalf.
The same way that every other company does it. Certain behaviors are grounds for termination. If you engage in these behaviors, you are subject to disciplianary action.
Seriously, no court is going to stick up for a pedophile’s right to be in a room with kids.
Then again, a rope and a tree out back is a good option, too, for these guys.
