Note that that table is about corruption perception, not about corruption itself. And that’s the problem with trying to clear up anything that’s being discussed in this thread. The problem is actually several layers deep. The first layer of confusion is that the news stories that get printed or broadcast are not good ways to measure the frequency of anything. A news story gets printed or broadcast because it’s interesting, not because it’s necessarily typical. Often it’s the least typical stories that are the ones discussed most. But there’s a second layer of confusion in this. You need to look at statistics, not anecdotes. Unfortunately, that doesn’t necessarily prove anything either, because often crimes and corruption aren’t even officially reported, so the statistics may not be accurate. And there’s a third layer of confusion. The news stories about some particular criminal act may be more common now and the statistics may show that it’s reported to the police more, the criminals are charged with this crime more, and they are found guilty more. That doesn’t necessarily prove anything either. It may be just that now such corruption and crime are more clearly perceived as being wrong, not just something that has to be expected and more or less ignored. ---

So is the argument that American police are more corrupt than _most other countries_, or _most other Western, First World countries_? Or some other limitation? ---

Population of Germany 80,523,700 ([source](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany)) Population of USA 317,042,000 ([source](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USA)) Pop USA / Pop GER = 3.937250772 (multiplier) Shots fired by German police (source Fuji’s post) multiplied by 3.937250772 = 334.6663 shots Result: 335 (rounded) are nowhere near 10.000 shots. If the equal amount of shoot should have been fired by the German police in comparison to the USA, the number would be 2540 shots. Or If the equal amount of shoot should have been fired by the USA police in comparison to Germany, the number would be 335 shots by the USA Police. ---
