First of all, it implies that DeSantis lifting restrictions on Friday is the _cause_ of cases rising on Tuesday, which it is not. It takes time for people to be infected, time for them to notice symptoms and go in for a test, time for the test to be processed, and time for the results to appear in the state’s daily totals. Anyone showing up as a new case on Tuesday would have been infected before Friday. Secondly, there’s _always_ a big rise in cases between Monday and Tuesday, every single week, as the various agencies play catch-up reporting results from over the weekend. It’s expected. Monday’s reported total was unusually low (actually, THE lowest single-day total since the beginning of June); Tuesday’s was not unusually high (the highest since … ten days earlier? Seriously?), especially when you factor in the weekend catch-up issue. A look at the seven-day average does not show anything that could meaningfully be considered a “surge.” ---

If they don’t lock down at least a bit, they’re going to lose a lot of tourists. The US is already off the radar for most of my friends in the UK, but Florida will be even moreso, and it’s one of the biggest destinations for Brits going to the US. ---

As long as we persuade / scare / theaten the northeasterners enough that they stay north this winter rather than staging their usual invasion I really don’t care how dumb our Governor gets. Better if we can achieve scaring them off without killing many full-timer Floridiots like me. ---
