I’ve only seen manatees in tanks in captivity, never in the wild. Including at that facility although I can’t say I’ve seen those particular two critters. Imagine something almost the size of a legless elephant with evidently about 2 brain cells and one is asleep at any given time. It’s a sleepy blimp made of blubber. It’s a mystery to me that they could even detect a fellow manatee, much less muster the gumption to move towards it, much less have vaguely mammal-style vigorous sex with it. Yet here they are, millions of years later. Some ideas are brain-bleach worthy. This one is more “Huh. Who knew they could even move?” ---

About all I know about manatees is this: Dave Barry wrote a book called “Naked Came The Manatee”, and a few years ago, somebody did this. I’ve read that, years ago, manatees were mistaken for mermaids.
