> A body is found in the frozen North Dakota woods. The cops say the dead Japanese woman was looking for the $1m she saw buried in the film Fargo. But the story didn't end there. By Paul Berczeller.

This looks like a very interesting film.

I’d heard of this when it first happened. Silly girl.

**Alcibiades** , you have read all of the linked article, haven’t you?

Or are you honestly implying that someone who commits suicide (even for love) is ‘silly’?

It’s quite the story all right. Just a small nitpick (I read it all).

> It took about four hours to drive from Bismarck to Fargo, down Interstate 10, a long, flat, almost mesmerisingly straight road. For hundreds of miles on end nothing changed in the blank, white landscape except the remaining distance to Fargo on the signs by the side of the road

Yes, it would have been a long drive as Interstate 10 is just about the most southern Interstate Highway (the southernmost to go coast-to-coast AFAIK). I think he meant I-94, which turns into Highway 10 at Fargo.

How tragic. A true life _Madama Butterfly_. I wonder about Doug, the American married business man, and how this tragic outcome affected his marriage and his life. And how Takako’s Parents feel about the situation. Do they blame Doug? Did they have any clues as to why Takako was going to the US?

Uhg. What a story.

No, sorry, I hadn’t read all of the article, only the first half. I missed the end: your post made me re-read it. “Silly” is the wrong word. “Tragic” is.

Sad. Very sad indeed.

Although the story makes it clear that it actually had nothing to do with Fargo the movie:

> [@](#):
>
> It turned out that the story I had come to find in the upper midwest never existed. Yes, she had come to the upper midwest to kill herself. But not because of Fargo. It seemed the whole treasure story was nothing more than a Coen brothers-style series of tragic misunderstandings. Nothing more than the figment of an earnest policeman’s imagination. Nothing more than a tale that people wanted to believe.
