Food love vs. hate

Really? Because I sometimes eat the skin and I find it somewhat bitter. Not overwhelmingly but enough to notice.

Like: pickled herring, sardines.
hate: most strong cheeses, olives.

If it weren’t for that fucking rutabaga I’d be a rich man today. And my mom would still be with us.

Love olives, licorice, blue cheese

Hate mayonnaise, cantaloupe/honeydew (to me, they’re the same damn fruit that ruins every single fruit salad by contaminating everything else with their horrible taste.)

Whoa! Dried corn?! My ancestors (OK, Grandma, Nana and Mom) made it from the box. It was a staple in our house at TDay, Xmas and Easter. We had to make sure Grandma brought extra boxes for Mom when she came to visit.

It doesn’t seem to come in boxes anymore, just some kind of pouch.

Bingo. We couldn’t leave the table as kids unless we ate a quota of the foods we didn’t like. Chicken livers and Brussels sprouts were two that left scars.

Urbanredneck, any food or drink-related thread will go in Cafe Society. I know sometimes it seems a lot of questions could fit IMHO too, but if it’s about food or drink, it will go in CS by default.

I don’t hate any food.

Love : Liver and Brussel sprouts.

Hate : Coriander and peppers.

In fact I hate chicory precisely for this reason (I was force feed them and vomited), and coriander because I had some food poisoning after eating a dish flavoured with it. And the taste of peppers for no reason that I know of.
My father hated carrots because after having refused to eat them once, her mother gave him only carrots to eat for a whole week. Note that my father having had a harsh life (including concentration camp) wasn’t exactly the picky type when it came to food.

Love : Dry Cereal… ok Love is a little strong, but I do really like it

Hate: Cheese any and all. and Cilantro, taste just like soap.

Love: Brussel Sprouts.

Hate: probably an overstatement but I never eat turkey unless there is no other option.

Snap ! as they say. My sentiments exactly, about both.

Something many people love, but about which I’m completely “meh” – fresh bananas. I don’t hate them, I just find them dull, dull, dull: will never eat one from choice. Oddly, I like banana-flavoured stuff.

Love: liver, kidney, broccoli, brussels sprouts, strong-flavoured cheeses
Hate: green beans

I love anchovies.

I hate tomatoes.

When I was a kid, we had fish (mostly self caught locally) three or four times a week. We were poor, it was free, and that worked. I ate so much fish that by the time it wasn’t necessary I gagged at the sight of it. It took me years until I would order or make it by choice again. And still I usually go for ocean as opposed to river fish given a choice.

Love: lima beans (especially butter beans).
Hate: mayo/Miracle Whip. The miracle is that anyone would eat it.

Love:
I** love** Tofurky, and I hate turkey. When I was a kid, and not yet a vegetarian, I didn’t want to eat the turkey on Thanksgiving, so it was a long time before I tried Tofurky, but I love it.

I also like almost anything that is a vegetable. It’s easier to list vegetables I don’t like (okra, anything hot, like jalapenos), then ones I do like, albeit, some I need to be cooked, like Brussels sprouts. When I was a kid, I resented the stereotype of kids as disliking vegetables

Hate:
Meat. This is why I’m a vegetarian. Yes, I love animals, but mainly, I hate the taste, texture, and mainly smell, of meat. There were lots of battles at the table when I was a kid, because I wouldn’t eat meat. I was ten when I found out that vegetarianism was a thing, and decided as soon as I was on my own, that’s what I was going to do.

I also hate Miracle Whip, although I like mayo on sandwiches, but sparingly. That last bit is important. I order it on the side in restaurants, because they tend to slather on way too much. A sandwich made with two slices of bread needs, at most, a 1/2 tsp of mayo. People tend to put like, a tablespoon. If Miracle Whip is all they have, I’d rather do without. Ditto with margarine for butter, and powdered “cream” for coffee.

I’m big on organ meats. Chicken or beef heart and liver a couple of times a week.

Ii love sweet potatoes. This time if year, they are around 20c a pound, I buy about 20-30 pounds of them, they keep for months at room temperature, I bake about 4 at a time, and keep them in the fridge.

There is nothing I will not eat. I’ve eaten everything from camel to caterpillar to live sea-urchins to hog penis to cod tongues. It’s all good.

Love: pate and liver.

Hate: cooked spinach.
