I agree, that’s a good first step. To continue the hypo, let’s say that a quarter of the parents you contact actually take it to heart and start sending better lunches or just stop sending lunches and let their kid take advantage of the free school lunch.
A quarter of them clearly don’t give a shit; they just agree with whatever you say and keep sending the shitty lunches.
A quarter of them acknowledge that the lunch is unhealthy, but believe there’s nothing they can do about it. “That’s all she’ll eat! I thawed out some broccoli for her a couple of years ago and she didn’t like it. I ask her all the time if she’ll try something else, and she just wants Cheetos and Dr. Pepper.”
And a quarter of them display righteous fury. “Who the hell are you to tell me what my child should eat? The FOOD POLICE? Don’t tell ME how to raise MY child. If I want MY child to eat pork rinds and Mello Yello for lunch, then that’s my right as an AMURICAN, and there ain’t nothing you faggot-ass Obammy-lovin’ brownshirts can do about it!”
Shrug, if it is extreme enough to constitute abuse contact child services and have them deal with it. If the kid is clearly not malnourished I’m not sure it even is abuse, like I said I was never hungry around lunch time I mostly ate breakfast and dinner with a snack for lunch. Were my parents abusive because they didn’t force me to eat a full lunch?
