Actually, a slice of lemon peel with espresso isn’t uncommon, although not authentically Italian. It’s for the lemon oil, not the juice though.

(oops… ninjaed by **Kayaker** … sorry!)

Once put lemon extract into a salmon loaf recipe that called for lemon juice. (They were both lemony and liquid. What could go wrong, I thought.) Lemon extract is incredibly powerful. The salmon loaf was unspeakable. Bless my father, who ordered pizza and never teased me about this.

Marie Callendar’s has a Key Lime Pie available in the freezer section at my supermarket. It claims to have a graham cracker crust but in fact it’s more like crunchy gingerbread. The gingerbread spice does not work at all with the lime. I ate one bite, Celtling ate one bite, we looked at each other, and then she put her foot on the pedal to hold the trash can open while I dumped the whole mess into it. We have never spoken of it, but will occasionally see one while shopping and wrinkle our noses at one another, remembering the horror.

Blech.

There is no cream cheese in California Rolls, and in any case, putting dairy in Sushi is a abomination. 😛

Do _not_ cut a berry pie with a slightly tarnished silver server then lick the server.

I had a friend who put slices of American cheese on top of frozen pizzas when he cooked them. I am pretty sure they were Singles-type slices. It was awful.

It was 5 AM and I sorely wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Turned out I was out of peanut butter, but I did have Nutella, and I figured they were close enough, right?

Turns out they’re not.

I can just about see how that might work, but crikey, lemon juice and coffee is nasty.

Some Campbell’s commercial suggested pouring a can of Campbell’s Minestrone soup over rice for a quick and easy meal. I like rice, I like their soup, so I tried it.

I don’t think I could have gotten a dog to eat a second spoonful.

I dislike honey as a sweetener for coffee, something about the subtle flavor of hony that simply is nasty in coffee for me.

Why not just eat the filling and dump the crust?

And I don’t like cheese with apple pie [or whipped cream, or ice cream for that matter.] Though unlike lots of kids, I never had anything against mixing foods - I knew a fair number of kids who wouldn’t eat the stuff on their plate that touched something else. I figure it all ends up in the same place, so if I get mashed potatoes and corn mixed up, or gravy on my peas, no big deal.

Seconded. Tried it with my second cup this morning. Intensifies the bitterness and tastes all around wrong.

I’ve fallen for that one before - a little bit of rice in a soup is fine (Mulligatawny soup); a lot of rice with a smaller amount of strongly flavoured stuff also works(curry), but mixed sort of 50/50 with anything that is only normally-seasoned, rice is powerfully bland and ruins the whole thing.

Twenty-some years ago, I lived in South Carolina, and you can get these very rustic and authentic pork rinds at the convenience stores there (and boiled peanuts- yum!). These things are nothing like the light, puffy things you get elsewhere, they are very hard and compact and crunchy. Do NOT ever eat these with Mt. Dew! Somehow, a very nasty chemical reaction occurs, much like toothpaste and orange juice. Very, very bad. I’ve only met one other person that I’ve discussed this with that knows what I’m talking about.

Eeeew. Yuck.

Properly eat them with beer, or cola. Maybe sweet tea in a pinch, but never lemonade.

I absolutely love them - can’t get them up here in the north, yankees don’t know what proper cracklings are.

My grandma did that once with a pizza we’d brought home from a restaurant. We were completely dismayed, but she informed us that “People _pay_ for extra cheese!” :smack:

I learned this morning that pouring black coffee into your cereal is not as good as it sounds.

No, I expect it isn’t good. It sounds way too close to the coffee soup my grandmother used to give me for breakfast sometimes when I was a little kid. The problem with some of those folks who survived The Depression was that they never got out of the habit of living as if The Depression was still going on.

It’s a Seattle Roll that does this, and I completely agree.

This hasn’t been my experience. I dump about a cup and a half of rice into tom ka gai when I make it, and it’s quite good. I also cook the rice with the soup, so it absorbs a lot of flavor.

I tried to replicate this when I was in the US, not noticing that unlike the unsweetened peanut butter I get in Germany, you can’t find a brand of peanut butter at the supermarket that doesn’t have several spoonfuls of sugar mixed in, and that the brand of ramen was considerably less spicy. The result? A completely inedible mess where the sweetness of the peanut butter was overwhelming but not enough to let me forget just how lousy everything else was. You need the right peanut butter.

I’d be really surprised to find no peanut butter without sugar at any decent US supermarket. Since the late 70’s peanut butter that contains only peanuts and salt is quite common, at least here in California.
