# Food tasted very loud today

I usually have quite good tastebuds, but today, everything I ate and drank was so overpowering, like the flavours were burning in my mouth and into my sinuses. Even bland food like bread… it was crazy. Any ideas on why?

You might be getting sick, like with sinus trouble or a cold. When I had the Hong Kong flu a lifetime ago, everything tasted like pepper.

Yep, sometimes when I get a bad cold, some flavors become overwhelming, and anything the least bit sour burns my sinuses. In fact, one of the first signs that I’m getting a cold at all is that sour flavors start getting more intense.

I have had sinus trouble today… but it’s not just sour flavours that are amplified. Sweet too. Salty, bitter, the whole shibang. I guessed it was from the weird mango I ate… but I guess the mango was ‘‘weird’’ coz of the sensory freakout…
