In the doctors waiting room, Top Chef was playing.
The contenders were to make a 7 course meal representing the 7 sins.
All I could think of was something chocolate for lust.
What are your ideas?

A giant plate of fries for gluttony?

But sloth, envy, pride, and wrath don’t strike me as very edible.

Sloth can be well represented by any prepared ready-to-eat meal, it’s not related to a specific food type. Envy is just anything green, like broccoli. Pride is represented by something you’ve made yourself that’s turned out well, like a fine lasagna.

Wrath is when you open a frozen fried chicken dinner and find that the compartment that’s supposed to contain the fried chicken is empty, even though the whole package was factory sealed. (True story!)

For gluttony, I suggest a transgressive food such as foie gras, although 99.99% of professionals chefs likely don’t see it that way. So maybe shark fin soup or birds nest soup.

For gluttony, one of the oversized burgers you see in some restaurants and a huge cocktail.

For sloth, perhaps a delicious, but easy to assemble dessert.

For wrath, maybe dessert involves the biggest and most over-the-top burst-into-flames effect you can manage at the dinner table with a Baked Alaska.

For sloth, you then wait for someone to later ask why you only made six courses, and you push the dish of half-melted ice cream to them.

Avarice: Any dish served family style where you can steal more than your share.

Pride: A dessert that takes hours to prepare, with all sorts of frou-frou chocolate thingies stuck out at angles and edible gold and silver balls spelling out I WIN!

Envy: You get a slice of gluten-free bread; your dining companion gets an everything bagel with schmear, bacon, tomato, and avocado with a toothpick with excelsior holding the halves together.

Sloth: Microwaved Hot Pockets.

Lust: Oysters ‘n’ prairie oysters.

Anger: Pasta in a red sauce made with ghost peppers.

Gluttony: An entire box of Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berry cereal in a large mixing bowl.

My lovely wife says (without hearing mine):

Avarice: Sticky rice.

Pride: Crown Roast of Pork.

Envy: Green beans.

Sloth: Carton of Ben & Jerry’s and a spoon.

Lust: Chocolate Orgasm Cake.

Anger: Habanero poppers.

Gluttony: Homemade meatball soup.

We’re curious to know what they actually prepared.

For sloth, you can eat sloth. Apparently [not a fave culinary experience](https://slate.com/technology/2012/02/explainer-house-call-what-does-sloth-meat-taste-like.html#:~:text=Outside%20of%20a%20handful%20of,is%20enough%20for%20a%20lifetime).

> Outside of a handful of indigenous South American tribes, there isn’t much of a tradition of eating sloth meat. Researchers who work in Amazonia and have sampled the dish report that it’s slimy, chewy and gamey, and most feel that one serving is enough for a lifetime. Still, as with any food, personal reactions differ. Daniel Everett, a linguist who has spent more than seven years living with the Pirahã people of Brazil, agrees that unseasoned sloth is tough and slightly gamey, but he finds the meat palatable and vaguely reminiscent of pork.

I suspect that sloth meat is more tender when slow-cooked.

Maybe you could mention that you’ve prepared two appetizers. In a moment, we’ll get to the pricier one that required a lot more time and effort; first, though, let me do a lackluster job of showing this cheap crudité: it’s pretty much just celery, with a cream dip that doesn’t exactly tantalize. I’m not seeing a lot of interest? Well, I guess that’s to be expected. No, don’t pity me while I set that aside for myself, as I now bring out the real showstopper for all of you.

Which brings us to these beauties; I’ve been marinating ‘em for a good long while, after getting a great simmer going as befits wrath: _hot wings!_ Delicious, and ridiculously _spicy_, hot wings!

…it feels like you’re now looking my way in envy.

A friend of mine make a meal which is melting cheese in a microwave. Not making frica, or chips or even bread. Just melted cheese in a bowl.

Pride is all puffed up, so how about a souffle.

Greed: Salt Bae’s golden tomahawk steak

Envy would be any food trying to be something it’s not. Like making a chuck roast into “waygu”. Or chicken into “roasted quail”.

Gluttony: what is the most caloric-dense food I can make? Fois-gras something.

Lust for me would be chocolate with figs and pomagranites

I’ll have a go. 🙂

Avarice: Black truffles, fois gras, Beluga caviar and a bottle of 1945 Romanée-Conti. Make it two bottles.

Pride: A perfect roasted holiday goose.

Envy: Avocados.

Sloth: Fried baloney with melted American cheese and a can of Redi-Whip for dessert.

Lust: Strawberry tart with champagne.

Anger: Hot smoked paprika and cracked pepper liberally sprinkled on a very rare steak.

Gluttony: Fettucine Carbonara made with breaded veal cutlets, panacetta, cream and peas. Pound cake with raspberry jam and whipped cream for dessert. (I could never eat this meal!)

I agree, and it’s delicious – but I could only manage a few bites myself! Since Gluttony was the theme, I was thinking of massive, too-large quantities.
