When I was a kid, I was predisposed to like any food I was supposed to hate. A little hipster, or contrarian. Well, anyway I was special. 🙂

I’m willing to eat anything mentioned so far, though I wouldn’t be enthused about canned cranberry sauce or fruitcake.

Marmite I’ve never had. If it’s anything like vegemite, I would approach it with caution. I really wanted to like vegemite…but come _on_, y’all! 😛

Yes, Vegemite is pretty much the same thing. It’s like Coke vs Pepsi. And there’s similar, but different, extracts like Bovril, which is actual beef stock mixed with yeast extract, so is not vegan, obviously, and has, well, a beef flavor. (Though I kind of think of Vegemite and Marmite as being “beefy.”)

White pudding is even better than black (blood) pudding for a full breakfast, IMHO.

I love every food mentioned in this thread.

I make a northern African stew with prunes, yams, meat, etc. My son was eating it one evening and he loved it until he asked me what the black yummy things were. In his mind prunes make you shit. He freaked out over the meal and was hesitant to try anything new for a while.

Gizzards. I tried these for the first time in my mid 30s. Surprisingly good. Even the texture was nice.

Vienna sausages are decent too.

I think of it as a cross between chicken and shrimp. Similar to alligator.

I’ve had rattlesnake and alligator, but only in a sausage, so who knows what the meats themselves taste like. But I wouldn’t turn up my nose to a fillet or steak of either.

The first food mentioned in this thread that I do not love. Then again, I’m squicked out by cow milk in general.

I like to pickle my cooked beets (sliced) along with hard-boiled eggs.

I ate haggis several times in Scotland and found it delicious.

I prefer white pudding to black pudding with my Full Irish/English breakfast. I enjoy innards but am not crazy about blood.

Love anchovies, okra, lima beans, spinach, and buttermilk. Not all at once.

On a survival trip, we had rattlesnake. Well, since we were hungry, it was pretty good, fried. But nothing to ask for again.

Prunes, yup, love prunes but not the name. Even the name sounds like someone struggling with constipation. Prrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnneeeeee DAMN!

That’s why Congress was trying to change the name to dried plums. Looks like it didn’t take.

:dubious: Maybe real ones are (I’ve never seen any) but those ones from Armour that come six-in-a-can? 'Tis to barf. One of the Hounds had to undergo a pill regimen a while back. We hit upon the idea of using Vienna sausages as a pill carrier and bought the first can in who knows how long. Upon opening the can it was, “Oh, God! People _eat_ this stuff?” One was extracted, sliced in half and stuffed with pill, which the dog snarfed right down. The other 5-1/2 were put into a Zip-lock bag and put back into the refrigerator for later – after doubly making sure the zipper had sealed properly.

I never realized Vienna sausages were supposed to have a bad reputation. They’re just little hot dogs.

> Not being in the UK I’ve not tried Marmite, but isn’t the problem we Americans put it on too thick, like it’s some sort of savory peanut butter? It should be so thin you can kind of see the toast underneath. Now I’ll have to see if I can find some locally ([$7](https://www.amazon.com/Marmite-25338-125g/dp/B000EZWHZW?th=1) for 125 grams seems pricey for an experiment).

Spot on, you eat it only sparingly.

It’s at its best on hot buttered toast. Also nice if you add some sliced tomato or cucumber.

When I was going through my “let’s explore canned meats!” phase, that was one I really did not enjoy. I love all kinds of Spam, Treet is acceptable but inferior, Underwood Deviled ham is tasty but overpriced for what it is, all the Eastern Europe hams and pates and fish are fantastic, but those Libby’s or Armour vienna sausages? I don’t know man. Something just ain’t right about those. I even bought some fancier brand (I think it was Eastern European, or maybe some regional version) that came in a pretty glass jar that was on clearance just to buy it for the jar itself (it was something like 99 cents for a 16 oz jar), and I tasted one, tried to give it to the kids and dog, and nobody wanted it, so dumped they went. I don’t know, maybe it’s that “hot dog water” they sit around in or something. I like pickled sausages well enough, but that liquid throws me.
