**Plain Boiled Carrots!?**

Yikes!

That’s not a taste preference that’s a crime against cooking.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED, that people don’t like raw tomatoes. I’ve never heard anyone outside this thread even remotely hinting at that.

Like Fish: raw (Peruvian cebiche, tiradito, sashimi), fried.
Hate: Fish soup.

Coffee: Roasted coffe beans - Like
Coffee as a drink — Hate

I can eat most vegetables raw, but only a few cooked (corn, beets…nothing else leaps to mind, actually.)

Agreed x2. Spinach was meant to be eaten raw.

Have you tried them both cooked the same way? I find that these spiced meats are one of foods that taste the most different cooked versus not. Even microwaving them changes the flavor considerably.

As for raw tomato haters: have you tried them with sugar? I tried it on a lark one time, and it tasted like just any other fruit all of the sudden. It was weird.

As for my tastes, um, I don’t like pickles except in hamburgers. And I don’t like any sour thing (like, say mustard) without sweet mixed in. Save for the aforementioned pickles on hamburgers.

And while I can eat them, I don’t really like “uncooked” corn tortillas, yet love them cooked. I’d actually put them up there with bologna and hot dogs for foods that taste the most different cooked versus uncooked. I can only stand uncooked corn tortillas with a ton of other stuff on them (like PB&J).

Can’t speak for anyone else, but for me it’s more about the texture than the taste. I just can’t stomach the squooshy texture of a raw tomato (god forbid a cherry tomato or grape tomato that bursts in your mouth, ugggghhhhh)

I’ve tried them nearly every f\*\*king way. There is a flavor in a raw, fresh tomato that I just do not care for. I can eat them, I just don’t like them.

Age, cook, dry, or marinate that tomato, and it’s delicious. Sprinkle a little vinegar on it, wait 30 minutes, and it’s delicious.

The Mrs. made gazpacho the other night, using fresh heirloom tomatoes. They marinated in a little lime juice and other stuff for about 45 minutes, and the dish was amazing.

People don’t understand how much I’d like to enjoy a fresh tomato. And if another person tells me I just haven’t tried a _good, homegrown_ one yet again, well… Pow! Right to the moon!

Daughter **Elfbabe** is the same way.

I read about a pregnant woman who had hyperemesis, and THIS was the only thing she could eat. She ate plain boiled carrots by the pound, and her skin turned orange as a result. Hey, it was that or starve (and puke her guts out too :(), and possibly lose her baby on top of it.

I’ve never acquired the taste for eggplant, either.

When I was a kid I didn’t like oatmeal. I did like porridge though! That’s what my mom would call oatmeal so I would eat it.

MOM: Would you like some oatmeal for breakfast?
ME: No, mom. I don’t really like oatmeal.
MOM: Ok. How 'bout porridge?
ME: Sure! That sounds good!

This reminded me that as a child I wouldn’t eat my broccoli but would eat my ‘trees’.

I can’t think of anything I think is ‘yuck’, but something I think is ‘wrong’. When I moved to the UK I saw sweetcorn in all the wrong places.
On pizza? Wrong!
In a burrito? Wrong!
With tuna on a sandwich? Wrong!

I love sliced raw tomato on cold sandwiches and hamburgers, and with sausage. To be edible, the tomato must be sliced horizontally. If you slice the tomato from the side, you have ruined it. Just feed it to the guinea pigs. DO NOT try to make me to take a bite of a whole, raw tomato unless you want to get smacked. Most forms of cooked tomato are fine. Ketchup must be smooth and savory. That grainy, sugary crap is for kids.

Scrambled eggs must be well scrambled and not the least bit runny. If I see more than one or two white bits they must all be picked out before I can eat. If I see a red bit the eggs go into the trash. The green yolks of incorrectly boiled eggs are the yummiest but I’ll eat the yellow ones, as long as they’re solid. You can have the whites. Poached eggs are just gross in every way. Fried eggs are the nasty, evil googly eyes of Satan and I’ll have nothing to do with them.

My Uncle Frank hated spinach. In the 20s and 30s, spinach was constantly being touted as THE food for iron. Which explains all those Popeye cartoons. Anyway, my grandmother was always trying to feed him spinach and he was NOT going to have any of it. There’s a family story of the time Grandma tried to trick him by sneaking in some spinach in some scrambled eggs. Which resulted in little Uncle Frank in his highchair picking out the little pieces of spinach out of his scrambled eggs and was shouting “Got dim son of a bisk!”
