I can’t stand most cooked fish. I love sushi, and also canned tuna, oddly enough. I can eat fish sticks and other battered fish if I can have a large amount of lemon to drown it in.

Beets. My mom loved them and would try to make them often, but I have always hated them. When I was married, and my ex and I would go out to eat and beets were part of a meal, I’d give my share to him. He will happily eat beets straight out of a can, that’s how much he likes them.

> Coffee has to be the top of my list. A few people have pointed me to varieties with “Trust me, this is really _good_ coffee, you’ll like this one”, and my reaction to those has generally been that they’re somewhat less vile than most. Almost the entire rest of the nation seems to love the stuff, though, even in the non-“really good” versions.
>
> Beer, I can’t drink at all anyway (I think it’s an enzyme deficiency), but the smell is definitely unpalatable. Again, beers presented as “really good” usually smell somewhat less vile.

I’m completely with you on coffee. I’ve tasted it twice in my life, and hated it passionately both times. Never again. I’m not even among those who will say “I don’t like the taste, but I like the smell.” Uh-uh. I’m very fortunate that my wife feels the same way. She’s a big tea drinker, so no offense is given in the household.

I don’t care for beer either, which is probably a good thing. No objection to liquor…I like my bourbon. But I can only drink beer that has some sort of other undertaste added to it. I can tolerate Corona and lime, for example, or the more recent ones where a fruit or other flavor is added. But even at that, I’m unlikely to have more than one of them.

These may be a regional (American South) thing, but I’ll nominate collard and turnip greens. Everyone else in my family (including, sadly, my wife) adores them. I absolutely detest them, as does virtually every other native Southerner I know. Barring starvation situations, they are literally worse than eating nothing.

I love spinach though (which everyone else in the family is either neutral or hostile towards).

The two at the top of my list: green peppers (in fact, ANY kind of peppers) and cole slaw. The latter absolutely gives me the willies. The former just is so acrid and bitter to me…I can’t fathom ruining a perfectly good salad by adding green peppers to it.

Also, pickles. I like cucumbers just fine, but anything that’s in brine or is served on a hamburger…NO.

I’m not nuts about cauliflower, but it doesn’t engender the revulsion the above three do.

Alfredo. Blecch. I’d add Brussels sprouts, but I think I am in a pretty large grouping there, maybe 50/50?

Cilantro is interesting, it appears linked to a gene, not a matter of simply preference. In other words, if you HATE cilantro, that’s because in your mouth it _is_ vile.

Yes! Its the only thing that when you say it tastes like its supposed to its an insult. “Tastes fishy.” Exactly. That’s why I don’t like fish. Its tastes fishy.

Brie in puff pastry-I scrape the jelly off the top and eat that with the surrounding pastry
Never had shrimp sauce, but lobster sauce look like, well…snot.
And avocado, I don’t taste anything.

I concur most wholeheartedly. Why anyone would wait in a long line for such a bitter drink is beyond me.
And I can barely stomach a few sips of beer without gagging and people drink bottle after bottle of this stuff? Switch to a distilled beverage if you are just looking for the buzz.

Oatmeal. It’s disgusting, slimy glop that shouldn’t exist outside of a Charles Dickens novel. Here’s a hint: the reason people typically dump tons of sugar or maple syrup or what have you on oatmeal before they eat it is because _oatmeal sucks!_

Bananas. I really can’t explain this one. I’ve tried to eat bananas on several occasions, but something about them just makes me retch.

Cilantro, zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers, okra, liccorice/anise - all taste nasty to me plus okra is slimy no matter how it is prepared. Kale, goes from tyvec to slime in 5 seconds and tastes nasty.

Coconut/tropical oil/tropical product/palm oil - causes the shits, and is present in so much convenience foods.

Mushrooms, deathly allergic, common in a lot of foods.

Bivalves [clams, mussels, oysters - you get the idea] ranges from mild shits to immediate projectile vomiting. Frequently clam juice is added to seafood soups or crab cakes or seafood salads to boost the seafood taste. Not a good idea for me, projectile vomiting is not fun.

And a dislike for taste - dried, canned and oily fish like mackeral. I know what the rotting fish that wash up on a shore smell like, and that is what they smell like to me. I also dislike liver and kidney because they smell revolting to me.

I will not eat voluntarily insects or stuff like balut, stinky tofu, those rotted soy beans that I can’t remember the name of.

I can’t imagine you know very many Southerners if all the ones you do know detest collards. That’s bizarre.

Add me to the tomato list. Can’t stand them. I won’t even eat ketchup. I’m ok with pizza or spaghetti sauce if there are no tomato chunks because the other seasonings drown out the tomato taste. I can only eat a finely pureed salsa with lots of other flavours. Strangely, I do like sun-dried tomatoes, but they taste nothing like their regular counterparts.

Mayonnaise. Blech. HATE the stuff. I call it The Devil’s Semen.

The other odd one: ham. I love pork, bacon, salami, pepperoni, all other pork-based products, but there’s something about the flavour of ham that I just don’t like.

Unless you prefer your pizza and spaghetti toppings to be anchovies, limburger cheese, and ghost peppers, what you are tasting _is_ tomato flavor. It sounds like you have an issue with texture, not flavor.

Ketchup tastes like sugar, not tomato.
