Where to start?

Peppers–any kind, prepared in any way. I will not eat peppers as food, as flavoring, as accents, as anything. Nope-I don’t like Mexican food. What a surprise.

Okra-I once vomitted all over the table after being made to “just try it”. Okra is nasty shit, whether cold, cooked, in gumbo, raw, whatever–it is foul.
Most fruits. Like an above poster, I like most cooked fruit, and fruit juice and fruit flavors. The texture of most fruits gags me. I like oranges and grapes.
olives. Disgusting snot balls.

Poppy seeds. They add nothing to baked goods–they get stuck in my teeth and feel nasty in my mouth. Why bother?

Beans–as in chili, refried, navy/white, whatever. I LOVE green beans. I hate kidney etc beans. They taste like the inside of a tennis shoe to me. Blech.

Rye bread. Why does it exist? Ditto pumpernickel.
There are lots of foods that I would rather go hungry than eat. But I like rumaki, and squid, oysters and steak tartar. Go figure.

I hate black pepper. Even a couple of flecks on something really bother me. I ask before ordering anything in restaurants whether a dish has black pepper in it, and I’ve gotten a few puzzled looks, and still have to send things back because there was a little in the dressing or the mixed seasoning or whatever.

Sweet peppers, red and green, come a close second. It doesn’t help to pick out the chunks, that flavor will permeate anything that comes in contact with them.

Hot peppers, though, are OK. I’ve substituted dried red pepper for black pepper at least a thousand times, and I’ve never had a black-pepper eater complain.
But all meats except beef taste like chicken.
Not really. Turkey tastes nothing like chicken, neither does pork, any sort of seafood, lamb, veal, and any many others. I don’t feel particularly limited.
I never mess with what people like to eat. … People get to choose what they eat in my world.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You’d be surprised how rare that is. Though in all fairness, I don’t think that most people do it on purpose. It’s like they just can’t conceive of someone not liking chicken, and their brain kind of gets stuck on the thought.

**Ragiel** , may I ask if you dislike _all_ black pepper, or just the regular table-type that you find everywhere. I never liked pepper at all until I tried ground peppercorns from a mill. Those taste entirely different to me, and I love the aroma they give off when freshly ground. But you wouldn’t catch me putting that other stuff on my food. It’s bitter and nasty.

Peas are the devil’s handiwork. I feel like I’m popping pimples inside my mouth or something.

I’m not a big fan of Lima or Butterbeans either. The texture is just… ick.

Cabbage is nasty. Try being German and not liking Sauerkraut.

Oysters are slimy and nasty. Frogs’ legs are nasty too.

Cole slaw. WHY does this come as a side to EVERYTHING? If a single fry touches the cole slaw, it’s completely inedible.

Cantaloupe, honeydew, etc. I don’t understand how anyone likes them. The taste, the texture, just bleeech. It makes me sad as hell that they’re standard in fruit salad, as I love pretty much every other fruit, but you can taste the nasty melon on the other fruits.

There are TWO things on this planet that I will NOT put into my mouth - avocado - texture is all wrong - and mango - God had not finished with the mango. The mango is an 8th day type creation. The flavour is not unpleasant … just … wrong …

First the observation: we’re on page three, and no one has mentioned disdain for that wonderful meat product made from pig snouts, tails, and other nondescript parts-Scrapple! Yum!! Fried with good catsup, tis a wonderful breakfast treat.

Slight hijack: Whilst discussing this thread, I related my enjoyment of tuna fish with peanut butter-great on a toasted english muffin, with or without swiss cheese. GF is ready to puke at the concept. What say you?

I’ve always been totally fascinated by persons having aversions to perfectly edible and nutritious foods, and acting as though everyone else is crazy for liking them. I can understand if their bodies have violent, involuntary physical responses to them, but no one is crazy or odd for liking beets or onions or whatever. I love asparagus and brussels sprouts. And peas, and raw tomatoes, celery, beets… most vegetables really ccoked or raw, except for the widely despised okra and eggplant, mainly on the basis of both unpleasant texture and flavor. Even then, it’s not like they can’t pass my lips, it’s just that I’d never be inclined to make them for myself or order them in a restaurant.

I can likewise understand problems with intense flavors like cilantro or olive, or curry spices, and I know some people react very badly to even miniscule amounts of the capiscum in hot peppers, but I consider myself fortunate that I can enjoy all those things.

I will say I eat most fruit when its presented to me, but I almost never buy if for myself, whatever that may mean.

OTOH, I’ll freely admit to completely unreasonable aversions to a lot of meatlike and some dairy substances:

Any recognizable animal organ or part (well not so much chicken legs, but pigs’ feet are right out)
Scrapple (the name says it all)
Lobster (I seem to be mildly allergic to it, but can chomp down shrimp all day long)
Crab, unless it’s in the form of a crab cake
Eel, shark or any other really oily or cartiliginous fish
Oysters
Buttermilk
Most goat cheeses (but I love feta with black olives on a salad, go figure).

And, hey, I’m aware lots of insects are perfectly edible, but I’ll hold those in reserve for sometime when I’m reaallly hungry, thanks.

Okay, but can’t we agree that this:

> [@](#):
>
> tuna fish with peanut butter-great on a toasted english muffin, with or without swiss cheese

is just plain _wrong_? :dubious:

Speaking of cooked vs. raw veggies, I forgot to mention carrots earlier. Sliced and cooked, I can eat a bowl full - raw, I literally cannot choke them down. I’ve tried before, even drenched it in dressing and could not eat it. Even the little tiny bits in salad mixes gets flicked off of my plate. Luckily my husband loves them.

**Borscht** – this is traditional at our Christmas dinners. I cannot stand it, especially as prepared by my family.

**Broccoli** – my mother, my wife, and my daughter love this. I can’t stand it. I will eat if it heavily sauced so that I can’t taste it.

**Cauliflower** – hate.
