Foods you miss

Tito’s! Their cheese tastes a little plastic, but I loved getting a couple of tacos and some refried beans (and the chips!) on a Saturday morning.

Thai Beer is really unimpressive if you go to it. But they kept hanging those menus on the gate, so I ordered. They were cheap, and I’d get like $30 worth of Thai food and eat it for days. Not super-spicy, but hotter than Natalee and there were actually green chilis in it. (There was a place near my house up here, and they used jalapeños! ) Up here, Thai food costs twice as much and is half as good. There’s a place in Bellingham that’s been recommended. I need to get there sometime.

There’s an Indian market on Venice near Motor. (I think. Little strip mall, anyway.) They had this Indian tea. Came in a yellow cellophane bag, and it was dirt cheap. Could’ve been ‘Flower’ brand, but I don’t remember. Not the best tea, but it was strong and cheap and good with milk and sugar. I wish I could get me some of that. But I don’t remember the brand. (Flower does come in cellophane bags, but I just googled an image and it was a red bag. Could’ve changed the packaging, or else that’s not the brand.)

What mall? Hubby works in Fredrickson.

I think I know the cookies of which you speak, they were always my favourite as well.

Did they have scalloped edges? I loved a Ginger Thin cookie that was like that, very very thin and crisp and kind of almost scorched on the edges.

I’d just about kill someone for some coonies (Snappies) from Heid’s, some Gianelli sausage, a big ol plate of salt potatoes and about a gallon of Byrne Dairy chocolate milk… and yet here I am half a country away…sigh

Hey, I live a stone’s throw from Heid’s! There is nothing so nummy for a midnight snack as a cold cooney with hot mustard on crackers!

A fresh one off the grill…a double please…

Those incredible cookies we used to get in New York from the Italian bakeries. You had to eat them the first day or they turned to rock, but damn they were the best.

Want fries with that? They sell fries now, and onion rings, italian sausage, chili, and fried fish! Used to be hot dogs and cooneys with chocolate milk on the side, maybe a teeny bag of potato chips…

I miss Williams (a family owned) grocery store. A big, rambling, falling down place with flickering lights, with a great bakery, and they sold the best big square slabs of pizza.

Today I had a Round Table pizza. Oh, sure, there’s a Round Table in town. But it’s 25 miles away, and I live outside of their delivery area. I avoid going to the shopping area where it’s located because parking is horrible and getting to and from the freeway is a pain (even though it’s right next to the freeway).

When I was a Young Adult, my friends and I would go to Round Table for pizza and (if our IDs weren’t checked) a pitcher of San Miguel Dark before hitting the boulevard. Those days ended when I grew up a bit and moved to L.A. Where I live now, I have a choice of three delivery pizzas: Little Seizures, Domino’s, or Pizza Factory. Domino’s is inedible. Pizza Factory is good enough, but expensive and they charge for delivery. So usually it’s Little Seizures, which is practically walking distance (half a mile) from my house. bleh

So I’ve had my first taste of Round Table in quite a few years. You know what? It’s still good. It would be better though, to eat it with friends.

HA! Family Guy reference, ftw!

Try Pagliacci’s sometime when in Seattle - particularly when the have the pie with Salumi’s hot pepperoni.

For that matter, have you tried a sandwich at Salumi’s yet? It was started by Mario Batali’s father - best cured meats I’ve ever had.

When we have pizza at the office it’s Pagliacci’s.

I try to keep my lunches to half an hour, so Salumi’s (over a mile away) is a little too far. I’d like to try it though.

I reemmber WIlliams… big horse on the roof across from Sweetheart market… an incredibly kick ass bakery

I forgot to mention that Sunday sauce isnt the same out here without a loaf of bread from Columbus Bakery… sigh
