BLOOMSBURG, Pennsylvania (AP) – Bloomsburg University’s student government president was charged with drunken driving just weeks after saying the media has unfairly portrayed students as irresponsible.

Christopher Bevan, 21, was pulled over last weekend after a campus police officer said he saw the student driving more than 50 mph in a 15-mph zone.

A breath test showed Bevan’s blood-alcohol level was .147 percent, authorities said. The legal limit for drivers in Pennsylvania is .08 percent.

Bevan recently wrote a letter to the Press Enterprise of Bloomsburg about media coverage of the central Pennsylvania college’s annual Block Party, an event critics have described as rowdy and alcohol-fueled.

This makes me want to laugh and loudly proclaim “Ha Ha!”.

doesn’t surprise me a bit, Bloom’s infamous as a party school (my cousin went there and lost his driver’s licence for 2 years after being busted underage at a booze party.) The last block party nearly ended up as a total riot . There’s always some story on the news about wild parties, shootings, and car crashes.

Adding to the “HA HA”-yness of this situation is how a very earnest Chris Bevan was on the local news last week to protest a town ordinance that would make large parties on campus or any parties serving alcohol illegal without getting a permit. He said something about how students can be responsible and student government was looking forward to working with town government to prove it.

I’m savoring the irony.
