I’d take Matty Etherington off your hands, though (if West Ham hadn’t beaten me to it that is). Always did like the guy, and our options on that wing aren’t great. Actually, our options on _either_ wing aren’t great. ---

And I’d have paid his cab fare all the way to Glasgow. When we bought Etherington and Davies from Peterborough ME was supposed to be the real deal and Davies the makeweight. THe reason that SD is now one of the best around and ME isn’t is simply down to attitude. SD decided he wanted to improve ME thought he already was god’s gift. The valuation on ME was £500,000. I would rate Davies at approximately the same level as Duff, ie about £8m to a sane club. He’d do OK in Scotland though (and he’ll be fine in Div 1). He may learn from this and suprise a few people. ---

Given the money that CFC apparently have top splash about; they have bought some crap. Veron for 15m? (and £90k pwk) I can here fergie laughing from here. Joe “showboat” Cole for £6.5m (and £45k pwk). Insane Wayne Bridge for £8m+ (£7m + Le Saux, plus Le Saux’s wages for a year). This is insane, and they weren’t exactly up against stiff bidding for any of these. I really really hope that this dodgy Russian gets fed up with them soon and leaves them in the lurch that they deserve to be (CFC are my least favourite team - The gooners can at least point to some minor achievements over the years - CFC are all mouth and trousers). ---

That was just an unfortunate incident involving his dressing down, getting the milk from the doorstep and a girl on the way to school . . . no wait, that was someone else – another Chelski player, I believe. Him on the wing a few years ago, Clive someone ? Can’t recall the Rix incident clearly, was it one of those ‘she looked 20 but turned out to be 12’ jobs ? Re Graham Rix: He did do time, quite a bit of it, and he had to do it on the beasts’ wing (not nice, not nice at all). It was all a bit unfair, to be honest. He was introduced to the girl by her family and they would take her to his flat etc, and he believed that she was 16. They certainly knew what was going on, and sold the story to the red-tops for lots of money. He was certainly stupid but not predatory. (no packet of sweets, no cheeky smile) He is still on the sex offenders register and is not allowed to work with Chelsea’s youth team. ---

The Latics currently have a grand total of 12 first team players with more than 5 games’ experience. Iain Dowie isn’t convinced the club has funds to last more than two months into the season, and the Football League is holding back on confirming our league membership as a result. Our star player is a 20-year-old centre-half with 30 games’ experience. Unfortunately we also have liabilities such as ex-Red Michael “I played in the Champions League, no really” Clegg and Matty “crocked” Appleby. ---

The fact that, in this case, the quoted party is a recently banned member does make it . . .and also founder member of the Premier League, I believe. Very sad state of affairs, **Matt**. At least in Iain Dowie you’ve a handsome son of a gun . . . he does seem to have genuine potential as a manager ? Dowie looks like a superb manager in the making. Very loyal, very intelligent (a former rocket scientist, in all seriousness - apparently he was a rocket motor engineer for BAe) and willing to try new ideas. One of his first moves was to hire a rugby fitness and motivation coach, and it seems to work. Sadly I doubt he’ll be here at the end of the season. I’m not entirely convinced the club will be here beyond Christmas. ---

I am very well informed about most things footie. It must be the company I keep/kept. I surely can’t be the only one who wasn’t suprised that Keegan showed a keen interest in Seaman. (nb the Rix stuff came from “sources close to the Probation Service”) ---
